Anyone who denies the deterrent effect of the death penalty is a fool.
It is only a deterrent when used expediently and without prejudice.
I don’t personally care if it deters even a single murder. It is a just sentence to pronounce upon the guilty.
Then I’m a fool. I did crazy things in my youth with NO THOUGHT of the consequences. Lucky I never got caught. No not murder or rape, but theft.
These animals don’t care but that doesn’t mean I’m against the death penalty. I’m FOR IT.
If executions were carried out within hours of conviction and in public and in a brutal way, it would be a deterrent, but some vague possibility of maybe dying 20 yeas down the line is not a deterrent.
I have no idea if capital punishment is a deterrent, and I could not care less. There's a lot of data that says it isn't. It certainly did not deter the murderers of Miss Grammer.
If it deters one tear from the eye of a victim's relative, or deters one minute of sleeplessness, I'm all for it.
The recidivism rate of executed murderers is very low, even non-existent, for some reason...
I remember back in the 1970s, when several men broke out of the Canon City prison in Colorado and went on a killing spree.
Several of the people they murdered on this spree were members of the jury that had found them guilty.
I am not sure capital punishment is a “deterrent”, but it a ABSOLUTLY guarantee they will not do it again.
It protects society from these creatures
