Sparse details usually indicates suicide or, less likely, foul play.
Saw him play many times for the Bears and heard him many times on his post-game radio shows after his playing career was over. He would get so worked up after a lousy Bears’ game that I was afraid he would keel over right on the radio.
Oooops, sorry Borges. Didn’t see the “Trib” link.
FR rules for posting can also cause sparse details...
Well he was a 70 year old ex footbal player..
More likely a heart attack.
Linebackers today are a lot bigger than they were then.
Yeah...see my #4
Used to see him at Sweetwater Restaurant at State and Rush Streets in Chicago. He was an investor and really liked to rub elbows with the people. Nice guy. RIP.
The grim reaper comes for us all eventually.
I remember watching him play. Man, I’m gettin’ old.
RIP Doug.
Buffone was a high-intensity guy. High energy, very passionate. Whenever I heard him on the radio, I thought he might be bursting blood vessels. Might have burst a big one...
In recent years, Buffone was a fan favorite for his Bears postgame shows with Ed OBradovich. Buffone was renowned for his raw emotion after games, and no one displayed more passion for Bears football than he did.
The show was on 670 amthe Score in Chicago. I think tge Bears killed him. He hated Butlers play.
As animated as he was on air, Buffone was just as sincere off the air.
Cutler? He actually deflected mindless fans who blamed Cutler for everything.
I'm a lifelong Packer backer but Buffone could flat out play.
Yes, back with Sayers, Picolo, Ditka.....
Ditka? Da Coach is still alive. Back with Papa Bear Halas makes more sense.
Condolences to Doug Buffone’s family and friends.
RIP.
