Students at both Oberlin College in Ohio and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., have been crying out that they fear for their safety because conservative groups invited someone who disagrees with their views on sexual assault and rape culture to speak on campus.
Christina Hoff Sommers, a resident scholar at American Enterprise Institute and author of Who Stole Feminism?, spoke at Georgetown last Thursday and is scheduled to speak at Oberlin tonight.
As reported by Twitchy, Georgetown students placed a trigger warning sign outside of the speech, advising that it would contain discussions of sexual assault and may deny the experiences of survivors. A photo on Twitter shows a student holding another sign reading, TRIGGER WARNING: anti-feminism and advertising the location of a safe space for anyone who might feel traumatized by Sommerss opposing views.
Why these students would go through all of this rather than just not attend is unclear but it seems like Sommerss experience with Oberlin students will be the same. In fact, the Oberlin students who wrote a piece for the school newspaper protesting the invitation preceded it with a trigger warning apparently, they consider Sommers to be so dangerous that even talking about her talking could traumatize someone.
Her talk is happening, so lets pull together in the face of this violence and make our own space to support each other, the students wrote in the piece, which was titled In Response to Sommers Talk: A Love Letter to Ourselves and had been signed by more than 150 students and campus groups as of noon on Friday.
It is valid and necessary to both create alternative spaces for healing and to directly challenge the violence that is happening, it continued.
The letter also announced an alternate event, titled Were Still Here Monday.
Right - cancel them and invite ISIS supporters. That should make them feel safer and much more cozier ...
I am growing very weary of the politics of victim-hood.
I would EXPEL every student involved, obviously they are too immature for College, let alone regular society. Not to mention all there names should be put on a DO NOT HIRE list for the country.
You’ll never find a more wretched hive of wimpy babies as at any college, yet they believe they are mature enough to have sex and drink alcohol.
“In fact, the Oberlin students who wrote a piece for the school newspaper protesting the invitation preceded it with a trigger warning apparently, they consider Sommers to be so dangerous that even talking about her talking could traumatize someone.”
Shouldn’t the trigger warning itself have merited its own trigger warning?
Someone merely speaking is ‘violence’ to these morons?
When I was in college I took 15-18 hours a semester and worked one, of not two, job to pay the rent. I did homework and slept about 5-6 hours a night if lucky. Where do these “students” have time to attend speeches and protests. I used to walk by these numbskulls and wonder that when I was attending.
Their use of the word in that sentence is proof positive that NONE of the people who participated in writing the letter have ever experienced real violence.
But THOSE are the ones who vote. Regularly and often. Many times, more than once. At the college, at their house, and via the drive-by ballot!
What a bunch of fags...
Good gravy, it’s like I’m watching a parody of reality sometimes. “Trigger warnings”?
I hate to be the one to break it to these special little snowflakes, but if you’re unable to deal with a college speaker you don’t agree with, you’re gonna be burnt toast when you actually have to enter the real world.
It is valid and necessary to both create alternative spaces for healing and to directly challenge the violence that is happening,
a statement that uses a misdirection and or lie in just about every word
Does no one speak English ?
What "violence" IS "happening" ?
Why is a non existent condition "challenged with force" ?
AND ISN'T THAT A VEILED THREAT ?
What is valid about a non existent condition and why is it necessary ?
What's with this creation and alternate thing ?<[p>
Why not just say;
I hate you because I hate you and I hate you, that's why I hate you
It would make more sense.
If you can’t handle hearing opinions that differ from yours, you have no business in university, and arguably no business even being loose in public. You need to find a nice padded room where you can suck your thumb without being disturbed.
There’s a need for fainting couches strategically placed around campus.

If an EMP ever hits these people will be walking around with constant wet pant legs until they starve to death or die from exposure.
Rape is impossible to prove in this day and age when depravity. Culture has taken us down an ugly road.
Actually it is clear, the Left wants to silent opposition, not debate.
This is how the left constructs dissent to positions they disagree with and uses it to silence opposing views. It's not that they feel threatened in any stretch of the imagination, they just have to make the right noise, and then the next step will be to use the law to force a shut down. It's how the cowards roll.
