In 2012, Mitt Romney was the out-of-touch establishment Republican who sparked a right-wing primary backlash. A New Hampshire GOP event this weekend suggests the storyline could play out again with Jeb Bush.
In New Hampshire this weekend, there was already the scent of it. Perhaps not overpowering yet, but unmistakable and very familiar.
"I'm sick and tired of mushy, wishy-washy conservatives," one attendee of a Republican gathering for potential presidential candidates in New Hampshire told The Boston Herald.
For good measure, she also made Saturday's headlines by suggesting that the still-awfully-far-away Republican presidential primary season would be a "coronation" because "it seems a little bit like the establishment is backing you as a candidate," according to The Hill newspaper.
The "you" here is not terribly hard to determine. No surprise, it's Jeb Bush. But rewind the electoral clock about four years, and the same comments were being mumbled about Mitt Romney.
Mr. Bush III is not yet in the presidential race, though he is apparently raising enough money to singlehandedly send Richard Branson to Jupiter, so there's not much mystery about his intentions. Unfortunately for him, there is also not much mystery about the fact that once he enters, he will inherit the Romneyian title of "Republican presidential front-runner for whom no Republican really wants to vote."

Agreed, he is the worst in a long line of bad...
Yes he is, but without the charisma.
Worse.
If for no other reason than the GOP is trying to stick it to us again.
But there are so many other reasons.
If God really cares for his flock, Jeb won't get that far.
Jeb and the murder of Terry Schiavo
..... is like Ted Kennedy and Mary Jo Kopechne.
No. Mitt was better.
Jebster is this cycle’sdesignaed loser, just like Romney and McCain before him. The RNC has almost perfected nominating a Democrat in an R jersey. As long as they provide an amnesty candidate, like every election since the last amnesty, The Cheap Labor Express gets what they paid for.
We will not be allowed to vote for anyone who will stop the invasion/cheap labor importation they like to confuse with immigration.
Yes, indeed. He took the job. It’s dirty work but someone has to do it.

I would rather have a beer with Mitt Romney...and Romney doesn't even drink. But I'd order him a lemonade and have a better conversation.
“OTOH, feelings against Jebbie are so strong that I haven’t seen one comment supporting him.”
I think you’re right about that. Zero, nada, zip.
There will be plenty who come out in support of him if he wins the primary, please God NO!!! It will be the same crew who still to this day blamed conservatives, for Obama’s reelection, who wouldn’t cave on their principles and vote for a libtard named Mitt. Those people will be doing there very best to point out what they perceive to be good points about Jeb and why we should all vote for him. They will be supporting him to the point of actually insulting the solid conservatives who have NEVER voted for a libtard in their whole life. Yes, those sorts will support him.
Worse. Way worse.
But...Jeb could loan Ron Paul some eyebrow hairs to make new brow wigs. I mean, ftlog...Jeb...groom your old man brows. I won’t vote for you...but you will look less silly when you are on the teevee spouting Bush BS.
Yes shallow of me..but I just cannot abide or take seriously Jeb Freakin Bush.
“Worse”...yes, they failed first with McCain, then they failed again with Romney...and Rove is cheering them from the sidelines...how many times do you have to “lose” to “get it?”
The establishment is hedging their bets. They have already started by loading the delegates for the next Republican National Convention with Bush supporters. aka “cheating”.
One effort in particular was noteworthy, as they will try and replicate the model. Back when state parties were pushing for ever earlier primaries, so that they would matter, the Republican National Committee made a rule that states that did this would be punished by only certifying a limited number of their delegates.
The Republican establishment in North Carolina, whose delegates were by a far majority Tea Partiers, have decided to keep their early primary, so the Tea Party people will be forced out, and only a small number of hand picked establishment backers will be the entire delegation to the convention.
So with one rule not being changed, the establishment will disenfranchise every Tea Party vote in their state, and all the remainder will vote as a bloc for Bush.
On the other side of the country, angry, bitter John McCain was more direct. His core supporters have forced out every precinct committee chairman in the state that is not a McCain loyalist. As such, they will all vote as a bloc for Jeb Bush as well, even though McCain hates W. Bush.
And don’t even think of taking out McCain in the primary, because with his wife’s deep pockets and his temper, he will not only destroy any challenger politically, but also ruin any business they own, and destroy their reputation.
Well, that is two states. You can bet your bottom dollar that the Republican establishment is trying to make this primary as unfair and rigged as possible. And with no sense of irony, if through some miracle a conservative still got the nomination, the Republican establishment would throw their support to Hillary, without blinking an eye.
