Pete Wilson had a GOP Assembly briefly from 1995-96 and that marked the beginning of the rapid decay in the state. You'd need Conservative Governors and legislators running the state for decades to begin to undo the damage.

That is the problem here in NJ as well; Christie can only do so much (and he at least stabilized the tax situation, resulting in a lot of layoffs of public employees we can’t afford), but it will take a long time to make up the lost ground.

Look at what Obama has wrought in seven years (and I don’t think we’ll recover from most of it).

And there needs to be, at least for the short term, an end to dumping water into San Francisco Bay for the purpose of restoring a long-gone salmon run, or to the Delta, in order to save a bait-fish, the Delta smelt, which may already be close to extinct. This dumping of water has continued even as the state has faced a potentially crippling water shortage; nothing is too good for our fish, or to salve the hyper-heated consciousness of the environmental illuminati.

Last year the rainfall was much less than this year. Northern CA got just a bit less than average this year. The Central valley and the south didn’t fare as well, still they got more than last year.

California is a beautiful state with unbeatable weather (near the coast) and the diversity of scenery is unmatched. As bad as the politics are, it is hard to leave it.
