One water district manager says the plan fails to account for water-saving measures already in effect in some California communities
California cities are pushing back against Gov. Jerry Brown's order for mandatory water use reductions, but it's not likely that regulators will retreat with the state in its fourth year of drought.
The State Water Resources Control Board's proposal to meet Brown's order has some cities slashing water use by more than a third, and it will be updated in the coming days. Dozens of affected agencies say the expected reduction targets are overreaching, unrealistic and unfair.
Calif. Sets Water Use Targets Amid Record Low Savings In an attempt to reward water-conscious communities, the board is suggesting cutbacks tied to water use in September. Critics say that doesn't take into account different climates from the coast to the desert and longstanding conservation in cities that include Los Angeles and San Diego.

Guys:
Shower with your wife or girlfriend.
Or if you live in Cupertino or The Castro, shower w your boyfriend or “husband”
Why not just raise taxes on water 100%?
That way people will stop using it so much.
There, I fixed the problem. :)
“Why not just raise taxes on water 100%?”
Why not recall Brown for never having done anything to solve the water problem here in California. The last reservoir built here was built in 1979. Since that time the population has doubled. He’s been derelict in his duties in all of his four terms.
Recall Brown?
No, we’re not going to do that.
He’s been a great governor: with all the tax increases and hamstringing regulations.
But thanks for the input. :)
Do you know how bad it is? Some people are DRINKING water! Like it grows on trees!
Funny how California expects all the water savings to come from the 10% of water used by residential customers. This while they allow the equivalent of 40% of the annual water used in the state to run off into the ocean.
Looks like Folsom is learning Lesson # 1 about liberal governance -- If you save, live within your means and plan for the future, you are simply setting yourself up to have your assets seized for use by those who haven't saved, lived within their means or planned for the future.
Fast track 10 desalination plants, use the money allocated for the choo choo to nowhere, tell the envirowhackos to shove it and learn to love eating delta smelt.
In his last election he ran on trying to get voters to approve $7.5 billion in water projects. So they re-elected Brown and approved his $7.5 billion for water.
A couple of years before that, the public scoffed at those projects. When they were 2 years into the drought, those projects seemed silly. But after going 4 years into the drought, they seemed more reasonable
California is always running out of stuff.
Remember “Gray-out” Davis and the lack of electricity?
According to my utilities bill I've cut water use by almost 35% through 2014...2015 ought to be a real thrill.
Maybe unrelated, but only yesterday Ms. N commented on the high level of water running down the L.A. River & into the harbor.
Not true. Somewhere in those figures, a large portion is flushed away towards the ocean because of environmentalist lefties. Millions of gallons of water wasted, supposedly to encourage fish to prosper. Only thing is, after several decades the fish are not prospering. Wasted water. Those millions of gallons of water wasted daily are ignored in the water usage stats, and are sorely needed for farmers let alone residents. Greenies should be tarred and feathered and composted.
“”Recall Brown”

I remember back in the 70’s drought there were bumper stickers that said:
“if It’s Brown, Flush It!” But the idiots still elected him! No single individual has done more to damage this state that Jerry Brown (and his worthless father before him comes in close second).
“Those millions of gallons of water wasted daily are ignored in the water usage stats, and are sorely needed for farmers let alone residents.”
Just like the unemployment stats that don’t consider those who’ve given up looking for a job, and the VA “updating” all the delinquent requests to see doctors so they are not years late. The citizens need to “turn on their government,” but they are too stupid to do so. Earl Butz was right, but his comment covers everyone now. “All they want is loose shoes, a tight p—sy and a warm place to $hit!” You can add in a couch, a flat screen and a six-pack.
“California is always running out of stuff.

And what did we do? We ousted Davis and replaced him with Arnold the Awful. Davis was the consummate crook, but at least he didn’t impregnate his maid (so far as we know!).
You know what is really chapping my hide is this Tiered system. It totally f’s you over when you have a family. Each home is allocated a certain amount of services mandated by the government. It is based on 1 person living in your home! I have 4 to 5 at times living in my home so I get nailed in this tiered scam.
Lol! No wonder I'm pissed off at the government, only got two out of three... I'm old so guess which.
I thought it strange that vacant lots were meticulously maintained and even had berms about 4' high and 10' wide totally surrounding them and the berms were some really nice displays of lush, well-watered grass that was also meticulously mowed and edged.
I was told that ordinances required that type maintenance and it became even stricter once the business was built on the lots.
Kind of ironic that they have water problems - I wonder if some of the requirements for businesses to use all that water, to maintain storybook appearance, will be lifted...
