I think it’s more important to note that Cruz is by all accounts a brilliant constitutional and legal scholar. But what this means is lost on a lot of people.

Many people imagine the presidency as being like a one hour TV drama, in which at the beginning, somebody runs into the president’s office and says, “Mr. president, we have a *problem*!” And then, for the next 45 minutes, the president works to solve that problem *for good*.

Sounds stupid, and it is.

The reality is that the POTUS must always think in terms of tactics, strategy, history and the future. Which is a LOT harder than it sounds. And, as Clint Eastwood said in one of his movies, “A man has to know his limitations.”

But Cruz would enter the office knowing what he *can* do, and what he *might* be able to do. And he will have to use political tactics to do these things, as part of a larger strategy.

Much of a president’s time in office is spent “getting their ducks in a row”, to achieve a given result. They must manage the congressional process, and get assurances that what they are doing will survive legal challenges.

While doing so, they must keep their plans secret, as any hint will permit those opposed to him to muster defenses against the idea.

They also need to plan for things that may take a very long time to bring about, and won’t be brought about by them. This is called “getting the ball rolling.” And hoping that it has so much momentum that it will achieve that goal.

It is also very hard on one’s ego, after having worked very hard to get something accomplished, it is accomplished, but you not only do not get credit for it, but your worst political enemies might.

Supporters demand results on what they care about, even if only they care about it, and it is impractical or close to impossible for you to do. And they will curse you for the “failure.”

“You might have created unicorns, but they are not *magical* unicorns!”

Being POTUS is not an easy job. So it is better to vie for somebody who is smart and motivated, and not to be disappointed when they are not perfect.

Cruz an be many things, but the Press and entertainment media will ridicule and label him as a right wing gun and Bible toting mad man, who is running against a combination of Mary the Immaculate and mother Theresa who also has the ability to walk on water. For Cruz its going to be a rough up hill battle to take the high ground. If he can squash the Press he can squash Hillary. Looking for an open debate??? Dream on, cleared questions only for Hillary. She won’t answer the tough ones. She’ll benefit from the massive hype and myth that will be put out continuously for the next 22 months.
