Three people are recovering from being shot after a routine traffic stop turned into a bizarre cop-car hijacking and police chase this morning. The incident started around 9 a.m. when a Miami police officer stopped a cab driver for speeding near NE 79th Street and Fourth Avenue. During the stop, the cab driver got out of the car with an assault rifle and began shooting according to NBC Miami.
"The offender attempted to murder our law enforcement brother," reads a statement from Fraternal Order of the Police president Javier Ortiz. "Our officer returned fire and a good samaritan provided cover and rescued him while the offender continued to shoot at him with an assault rifle."
The exact order of incidents, and who was shot when and where are still unclear.
However, after shooting at officers the cab driver then jumped into an unattended patrol car and took off. Officers followed him all the way into North Miami. The stolen cop car was eventually stopped at NE 15th Avenue and 125th Street.
At this location, the cab driver again got out of the car and began shooting at another police officer. During this incident, the cab driver hit an innocent woman who happened to be standing nearby. Officers returned fire and hit the suspect with at least one bullet.
The suspect is currently at Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Both victims were also taking to Jackson. No one's condition is available just yet.
Why is this maniac still alive?
They couldn’t shoot to kill this obvious danger to the public and to society?

I just saw it was van cover. still, glad he didnt get shot by the cops. He could have been delivering newspapers and gotten shot.

The Obama, Holder, Sharpton and pals crowd want nothing more then to stir up racial crap. They are doing all they can to stir up anti cop this and that. Police officers have a tough job dealing with punks as the punks know who is armed and who is not as a rule. The cops do not.
An assault rifle is an automatic sub-machine gun. Sorry to be inaccurate.

An “assault rifle” is a fully automatic rifle firing an intermediate sized cartridge. A submachine gun is a fully automatic weapon which fires a pistol caliber round. The weapon in this case is probably a semi-automatic rifle, caliber unknown due to the ignorance of the reporters.

Unfortunately I have never paid any attention to the Race Hustler poverty pimp crowd, The Actions of “Law Enforcement” have made me in to a person that would NEVER Believe ANYTHING a “Law Enforcement Officer” Says, and I would not piss on one if they were on fire. They are the modern day Gestapo. I do Not believe and never have believed in Special Rights for anyone. And my position will remain the same until All Laws are Applied equally to ALL Persons.
Now if we ever get back to having “Peace Officers” I might re-evaluate my position.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I don’t, I have just seen too much lawless, lying, covering up, and just plain outright criminal activity go unpunished.
My mistake. I thought the difference was mag fed vs. belt fed.
In the original comment, I was trying to make fun of the headline. Most reporters would call my Remington 700 an assault weapon because it’s black.
