Consumers in Australia flocked to Apple Inc's (AAPL.O) store in Sydney on Friday to get the world's first up-close look at the tech giant's smartwatch, which the company expects will be its next runaway hit.

The Apple Watch, CEO Tim Cook's first new major product, was available for pre-order online and to try out in stores - but not take home.

On April 24, consumers will be able to buy it online or by reservation at retail locations including high-end fashion boutiques in Paris, London and Tokyo, part of Apple's strategy of positioning the wearable computer as a must-have accessory.

I’m not getting one of those until about the second or third generation

So, in your view, they are not worth getting. Must be crap then, if fanboys don't want to buy them.

By the way, do you think Tim Cook should see a psychiatrist about his mental problems?

No, I’ve got an upgrade cycle that I’m following and I’ve got some other devices that I’m going to do first. And ... I don’t upgrade every cycle either, but in two to three cycles, as I find that the products last long enough for me to do that.

HOWEVER, as to how WILDLY SUCCESSFUL Apple is with the Apple Watch, I see that other manufacturers (Samsung being one of them) struggled to sell, between them all, a bit over 700,000 units last year (over the entire year) while Apple sold over ONE MILLION in just one weekend ... LOL ...

And then, while those others are trying to figure out what the heck they are doing wrong ... Apple is already gearing up their supply line to sell TWENTY MILLION this year ... :-) ...

Apple doesn’t need many “fans” when you’re talking about numbers like that.

AND as to whether Cook, or anyone else for that matter, needs a psychiatrist ... no, he doesn’t and neither do others. There is ONLY one thing that all people need, and that is to accept Jesus, the Messiah of Israel, as their personal Savior, because Jesus is the ONLY WAY to their salvation and to anyone’s salvation.

As we see told to us ALL HAVE SINNED and need a savior, no matter who the person is (and NOT a psychiatrist) ... which includes everyone here at Free Republic, too.

But as I don’t expect that many will, there will be quite a few at Free Republic who will go straight to Hell, too, along with others, out there in the public ... and that is unfortunate and I feel sorry for them all, including our fellow Freepers.

Right. I get it. The iWatch isn't worth it.

I think you better go back and read that again, if that’s what you think you read ... :-) ...

Yes, there are those at Free Republic who will go straight to Hell, just like the Bible says ... which will include you, too, if you haven’t accepted Jesus, the Messiah of Israel, as your personal Savior. I’ll pray that you see the light ... :-) ...

So, to summarize, you're saying that there's nothing particularly objectionable about Tim Cook's buggery, because everyone here on Free Republic is in the same boat.

God sees everyone as FILTHY SINNERS and ALL are deserving of DEATH, as he tells us in the Bible.

God sees you or others arguing about the “relative value” their own FILTHY SINS as a bunch of pigs ALL wallowing in the mud, all of whom are going straight to Hell without having accepted the Salvation from Jesus, the Messiah of Israel.

If you don’t do that personally, you will share space in Hell with everyone else you condemn, who has also not accepted Jesus, as the Messiah and as their personal Savior.

Good luck with that ... :-) ...

It’s not my personal view, you see. That’s exactly what God tells all of us in the Bible, and I take God’s Word as inerrant and infallible ...

— — —

Question: “Why are all of our righteous acts considered filthy rags?”

Answer: “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away” (Isaiah 64:6). This passage is often used as a proof text to condemn all our acts of goodness as nothing more than “filthy rags” in the eyes of God. The context of this passage is referring specifically to the Israelites in Isaiah’s time (760—670 B.C.) who had strayed from God. Isaiah was writing concerning his nation and their hypocrisy. Yet he includes himself in the description, saying “we” and “our.” Isaiah was redeemed and set apart as a prophet of God, yet he saw himself as part of a group that was utterly sinful. The doctrine of total depravity is taught clearly elsewhere in Scripture (e.g., Ephesians 2:1–5), and the illustration of Isaiah 64:6 could rightly be applied to the whole world, especially given Isaiah’s inclusion of himself in the description.

The term “filthy rags” is quite strong. The word filthy is a translation of the Hebrew word iddah, which literally means “the bodily fluids from a woman’s menstrual cycle.” The word rags is a translation of begged, meaning “a rag or garment.” Therefore, these “righteous acts” are considered by God as repugnant as a soiled feminine hygiene product.

As Isaiah wrote this, the Israelites had been the recipients of numerous miraculous blessings from God. Yet they had turned their backs on Him by worshipping false gods (Isaiah 42:17), making sacrifices and burning incense on strange altars (Isaiah 65:3–5). Isaiah had even called Jerusalem a harlot and compared it to Sodom (Isaiah 3:9). These people had an illusion of their own self-righteousness. Yet God did not esteem their acts of righteousness as anything but “polluted garments” or “filthy rags.” Their apostasy, or falling away from the law of God, had rendered their righteous works totally unclean. “Like the wind, [their] sins were sweeping them away” (Isaiah 64:6). Martin Luther said, “The most damnable and pernicious heresy that has ever plagued the mind of man is that somehow he can make himself good enough to deserve to live forever with an all-holy God.”

Though self-righteousness is condemned throughout the Bible (Ezekiel 33:13; Romans 3:27; Titus 3:5), we are, in fact, commanded to do good works. Paul explained that we cannot do anything to save ourselves, but our salvation comes only as a result of God’s grace (Ephesians 2:8–9). Then he proclaimed that “we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10; see also 2 Corinthians 3:5).

Our salvation is not the result of any of our efforts, abilities, intelligent choices, personal characteristics, or acts of service we may perform. However, as believers, we are “created in Christ Jesus for good works”—to help and serve others. While there is nothing we can do to earn our salvation, God’s intention is that our salvation will result in acts of service. We are saved not merely for our own benefit but to serve Christ and build up the church (Ephesians 4:12). This reconciles the seeming conflict between faith and works. Our righteous acts do not produce salvation but are, in fact, evidence of our salvation (James 1:22; 2:14–26).

In the end, we must recognize that even our righteous acts come as a result of God within us, not of ourselves. On our own, our “righteousness” is simply self-righteousness, and vain, hypocritical religion produces nothing more than “filthy rags.”

Therefore anything you say or do that you consider in yourself as righteous ... is to God ... “as repugnant as a soiled feminine hygiene product.”

ALL are in need of a Savior, and that Savior, the Messiah of Israel, is the ONLY WAY to your salvation! (and anyone else’s).

You may like like the fact that God says you’re efforts at righteousness are as good as menstrual rags, but that’s the way it is ... with you, all the Freepers and everyone else you may or may not complain about.

As was said above ...

According to God ... ALL ... are deserving of DEATH, no questions asked. ALL are the same and ALL are DEAD in their sins. ALL ... including all Freepers are condemned to DEATH!

THEN ... ANYONE who accepts Jesus as the Messiah, and their personal Savior is DECLARED RIGHTEOUS, solely on the basis of the imputed righteousness conferred upon them from the Son of God.

SO ... ALL are condemned and dead in their sins ... or ... they are saved by their acceptance of Jesus, the Messiah of Israel, as their savior!

That applies to Freepers and Cook ... EQUALLY!

I know Freepers who reject Jesus as their personal Savior, and if Cook rejects Jesus as his personal Savior in like manner as those Freepers ... those Freepers and Cook will be sharing space in Hell with each other, for eternity!

Let’s take a look at someone else ... also repeating ... what God says in the Bible!

— — —

You Deserve Hell Today

For decades now, billions of people have been listening to the McDonald’s singing slogan, “You Deserve A Break Today.” The sinful human nature finds such self-indulgent words greatly appealing. No doubt, this marketing strategy has largely contributed to McDonalds success. Unfortunately, few people realize the underlying humanism inherent in such words. Do we really deserve a break today?

The Word of God (the Bible) declares that we all deserve to burn in hell-fire and brimstone (Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:13-15, 21:8). No one deserves anything more than hell. Perhaps McDonalds simply meant that a working person has earned the right to enjoy a good meal. I would agree with that 100%. I love Big Macs and Quarter Pounders. I do not believe that McDonalds had any ill intent by using such words, but there is a difference between what we “deserve” and what we have have “earned” a right to enjoy. The Bible teaches that if a man doesn’t work, then he shouldn’t eat (2nd Thessalonians 3:10). A working man has a “right” to eat.

. . .

Seriously, the Bible proclaims in Romans 3:10 that we are ALL sinners. Romans 3:23 declares that we have ALL fallen short of the glory of God. Isaiah 64:6 declares that our self righteousnesses are as filthy rags in the sight of God. We needs the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ, available only through the blood which Jesus Shed upon the cross. If you have never trusted Christ as your Saviour, then please do so now.

So in your personal view, Freepers cannot judge or comment on unrepentant homos like Tim Cook, because they themselves are no better than unrepentant homos. Likewise, according to you, for islamic terrorists, Freepers should get off their high horse because they are no better, according to you.

in the interest of disclosure, I use a 20 year old Mac every day, along with the stuff I *have* to use at work, but BTW, I have no interest in owning a so-called smart phone (possibly in the same way I used to have no interest in owning a cell phone), and the Apple Watch appears to me to be a solution in search of a problem, appealing to the Koolaid drinkers. The incoherent, inchoate animus directed to Apple -- allegedly for reasons that apply at least as strongly to all other brands -- remains both distasteful and a puzzle. big glass of reality: Samsung circling the drain: haters gonna hate: this was the most intriguing announcment in the recent big reveal from Apple (when I work, I work in health care): and here's some good news for all you LINOs (Libertarians in Name Only) out there: and bravo!
