President Barack Obamas staff and visitors now have the option of using a gender-neutral restroom, a White House spokesman said Wednesday the latest in a series of symbolic steps the Obama administration has taken to work the priorities of the LGBT community into its broader themes of inclusiveness and tolerance.
The newly designated restroom is an example of how the administration has been advancing the discussion by raising the profile of transgender issues, an area of debate that is especially hotly contested right now. The restroom will be located in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where much of the White House staff works.
An all-gender restroom is also available in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which provides guests and staff an additional option, said White House spokesman Jeff Tiller.
Its a follow-up on Obamas executive order, which went into effect Wednesday, banning discrimination against gay and transgender employees of companies that contract with the federal government.
The White House allows staff and guests to use restrooms consistent with their gender identity, which is in keeping with the administrations existing legal guidance on this issue and consistent with what is required by the executive order that took effect today for federal contractors, Tiller also noted.

No huevos there, so no need for 2 restrooms.
They can use their noses?
You don’t want to know what else the government will make you do to get a gender neutral tax credit . . . .
I bet it still stinks after it’s used
I identify as a pink flamingo and demand species neutral facilities.
I went to the White House TWICE last Fall ... first return since the glorious days when the Reagans lived there. AND, first since 9/11/01. Now you wait outside until your scheduled time (after @ 45 minute wait, weather not withstanding) then go thru 2-3 levels of screening (having already had a check done of your SS# in making the reservation). There are NO guided tours. It’s now all self guided. AND, they’ve cut out a lot of the tour that used to be included, i.e., Diplomatic reception room. They’ve added lots of pix of former tenants, I guess for historical context.
BONUS: No life size cutouts of the Obamas.

I hope the ones of the Clintons went into the dumpster. They were disgusting!
Was there a bathroom?
“Was there a bathroom?”
Went back to find my WH pass from last Fall. It says restrooms are located at the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion, on the S side of the WH. Opposite end of WH from visitors’ exit. I can see that having restrooms IN the WH for the public would be a security concern. The whole set up for tourists changed after OK City, then again after 9/11.
The restroom(s) they’re talking about in this story are not in the White House itself, but next door in the EOB where most working offices are located. And you’d have to be invited to a meeting there, passed security, etc. to get into that bldg as well.
The day we visited (18 years ago) we had left Richmond in the morning and drove straight thru in time to make it to the last tour of the day. In those days you didn’t have to have a reservation. You just showed up and bought a ticket at a kiosk outside the vistors’ entrance.
Once inside there was no way to leave and no bathroom facilities. I’m afraid my daughter was miserable, as she was in late pregancy at the time. We were glad that the tour was quick and we were able to escape to Lafayette Park.
