The prospect of a billion-dollar Clinton campaign ought to frighten every American, the two-time Democratic presidential candidate said......The post-Citizens United campaign finance environment has sullied the presidential process, benefiting establishment politicians who cater to financial backers. He pointed to his own experience; he and his wife mortgaged their home for $50-$75,000 which made a significant difference in his 1984 primary campaign where he finished Hart finished second to Mondale. If you need a billion dollars, how many people can do that? Only the Clintons and the Bushes and one or two others, he said.
Hart is alarmed by current dynastic politics. Democrats would be better served by a competitive primary that forced Hillary to speak in more depth about the issues. Hart's phone interview also expressed admiration of Elizabeth Warren and gave advice to prospective challenger Martin OMalley, a former Hart campaign staffer. This country is 330 million people, and we should not be down to two families who are qualified to govern.
When you create dynastic networks, you shut a lot of people out, he added.
Last I heard, Donna is an evangelist now?
And gee, only 150 years to go...
I'd give up a shot at the presidency for a shot at that.
Hillary probably already has at least a billion saved up from the money that got "misplaced" while she was SOS, so it's really going to be an uphill battle for any GOP candidate.
The clintons' billion dollar war chest could breed overconfidence.....and that could be a political landmine.
IS THE "UNTOUCHABLE" HILLARY ANOTHER ERIC CANTOR IN THE MAKING?
In Florida the massively-funded Hillary has a 7-point advantage among women; and half of the college-educated womens vote (against Bush), far surpassing Obamas 42 percent in 2012. In Ohio, she leads all candidates among women by double digits. Same goes for Pennsylvania, where she has at least an 18-point lead among female voters, including a whopping 23-point advantage over Bush.
================================================
Then-Repub Majority Leader---Eric Cantor (Va)---- was highly visible, and collected tons of money---Cantor spent 26X times his opponent's $100K.
<><> Cantor consistently polled an astounding 34 points ahead of the unknown candidate Brat.
<><> Cantor was considered "inevitable" and "untouchable".
<><> Cantor had no ethics problems.
<><> Cantor sucked-up to an anti-tea party group.
<><> Cantor sucked up to the latino vote.
<><> Cantor showboated his leadership---was into "diversity" bigtime.
=============================================
BY CONTRAST, CANDIDATE BRAT ran as Cantor's TERM LIMIT
<><> Brat roundly opposed, and was vociferous against amnesty.
<><> Brat ran as a staunch conservative (now in Congress he has a conservative rating 100%.)
<><> On elections day, Brat got 18,000 more Repub out to the polls than the previous election that elected Cantor.
CANTOR IN DEFEAT----DUMBFOUNDED:
Another legendary Democrat defeat was NY liberal——Cong Bella Abzug-—in a solid Democrat district w/ all the lib credentials.
She had ooodles of money and ran a classic aggressive Democrat campaign.
But voters got sick of her relentless campaigning and visibility——some voters rec’d 3-4 phone reminder calls.
They went to the polls in droves and voted her out.
