Sure. Of course. Whatever you say.

That guy has problems that have nothing to do with tattoos.

You do realize members of the U.S. military, in all services, and of all ranks, have had tattoos for decades, right?

So have thugs and punks. Tattoos have never been acceptable. Just tolerated.

Allen West? Winston Churchill? Thomas Edison? Teddy Roosevelt? Andrew Jackson?

An old German-American priest.

You misunderstood my reply (which I wasn't clear on).

All the individuals I named have tattoos.

Well, I guess to you, I as a military retiree WITH tattoos and my wife who is also a former military member WITH tattoos are gang members or could not have honorably served. We’re in our 60s and have served honorably in spite of any notions about “evil” tattoos from the public.

It’s not about gangs, or anything else. I served with a Marine NCO who gained a battlefield commission. He had several tattoos and had been a member of a NYC 50s greaser gang. Judge gave him the choice, he enlisted and was a model Marine. Gang members have been joining for a long time.

The gays in the military problem is far removed from this as well. That is something that needs to be fixed and fast; military members have had tattoos going back to our founding, long before gangs were a real problem.

The new tattoo rules are not that lax; that guy wouldn’t be enlisted and you can’t honestly believe that he would even consider enlisting. But, whatever you think (you’re still wrong).

Funny, none of those people are associated with tattoos. Apparently their tats aren't/weren't apparent. Which disqualifies them as ornamentation, doesn't it?

Leviticus 19:28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks on you: I am the LORD.

I’ve known Marine Corps colonels who had tattoos. They have long been acceptable within set boundaries and the new rules don’t expand those boundaries to neck or face ink.

Leviticus 19:28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks on you: I am the LORD.

That would rule out pierced ears, too.

And, speaking of Leviticus, it also outlaws wearing clothes made of more than one fabric, cutting your hair or shaving, eating various animals & going to church within 33 days of giving birth to a boy. Among other gems.

Well, God hasn’t struck me dead yet. Old testament verbiage written and rewritten by many men, and kings who assembled the various books and traditions that they favored. I don’t think my God will reject my soul which has no tattoos, nor do I think he will reject my corrupted and decayed flesh at the final judgement.

I’d like to say that I was encyclopedic in my knowledge of Scripture, but i reality I looked this particular passage up when I saw it on Facebook, tatooed on someone. Ironic tat.

Agreed. They might make good soldiers but they’re still copycats caught up in a herd like mentality. Today’s youth are the most impressionable in history. That’s why there are so many tatted people. It’s a cheap and effortless way to express your “individuality,” especially when you’re incapable of expressing it any other way. In an age of massive and unparalleled immediate gratification this is what you get. These tatted soldiers are a symptom of the times, immediate gratification with no thought of the morrow. No restraints and self-indulgence are the new zeitgeist. An age where adolescents are precocious adults and adults perpetual adolescents; a time of self-indulgence and hedonistic self-absorption. If they want to express themselves they should try expanding your mind to include more than the various “Ink” shows (in HD at that) and get a vocabulary of over fifty words. I suspect it true that there’s a recruiting problem, hence this new leniency on tats.
