Thousand-year-old Anglo-Saxon recipe kills MRSA superbug

It might sound like a really old wives' tale, but a thousand-year-old Anglo-Saxon potion for eye infections may hold the key to wiping out the modern-day superbug MRSA, according to new research.

The 10th-century "eyesalve" remedy was discovered at the British Library in a leather-bound volume of Bald's Leechbook, widely considered to be one of the earliest known medical textbooks.

Christina Lee, an expert on Anglo-Saxon society from the School of English at the University of Nottingham, translated the ancient manuscript despite some ambiguities in the text.

"We chose this recipe in Bald's Leechbook because it contains ingredients such as garlic that are currently investigated by other researchers on their potential antibiotic effectiveness," Lee said in a video posted on the university's website.

Antibiotics are for bacterial infections, not viral infections.

Use Vicks Vapor Rub. Sounds dumb but it works!

With each of my kids I had problems with thrush and mastitis. I’d take antibiotics for mastitis, and then get thrush soon after. It was a vicious cycle. With baby number last I started swallowing to to three cloves of garlic a day, right before a meal. It worked for both issues.

This, from what I’ve been told, mimics a new branch of anti-biotics that shut down a bacteria’s ability to communicate. Supposedly it’s near impossible to mutate past.

10 to 1 Water and clorox (ten water to one Clorox) every bath or shower and you will cure that fungus in the nail and nail bed.

In olden times, a person would work 12 hr days for a season. When they had down time they had to do something. Most took up hobbies or research to better themselves. That is how a lot of this came to be.

Nowadays, our idle folks spend their time in trivial pursuits and mindless entertainment.

My fast remedy for the onset of a cold is to roast two medium sweet onions and eat them. Mmm good! I spray the halved onions with EVOO and sprinkle seasoning powder then close them up in tinfoil for baking at 3750

Actually, I thought medieval Europeans were all knuckle dragging Neanderthals compared to the more cultured and discriminating savages. Maybe not.

I think the oxgall is just to make it taste better. Kinda like those fruit flavored chewable vitamins for kids. I have heard oxgall was the rage in during the 10th century. This is kinda odd because you don’t eat a salve.

wine is a weak antibiotic/microbial, plus if red, has resveratrol for antioxidant effect.

Supposedly it’s near impossible to mutate past.

The key word is "near".

I used to think my MIL was insane for using bleach whenever my husband and his siblings got into stinging nettle, poison ivy, etc.

Now, we give our kids bleach baths, as prescribed by the dermatologist, for eczema and all skin issues. It works so well.

Friar’s Balsam was used in WWI also...pre-penicillin. I keep it in my medicine cabinet today.

Garlic works, but only if it is raw. I have cut a clove into pieces, then swallowed them whole. One clove three times a day worked to ward of influenza while my family dropped like flies around me. I, of course, smelled awful.

Now we take it is a tincture-very easy and inexpensive to make and you don’t smell so bad when taking it.

If you take garlic and probiotics along with soaking your foot in the bleach solution recommended by another freeper you should cure it. The key to any home remedy/natural cure is consistency.

With a fairly large family and insurance that doesn’t cover meds I have tried many home remedies for health issues and have discovered what works and what doesn’t. Garlic is a winner.

Oxgall probably dewatered cow's bile:

5) Functions of bile:
a) Emulsification - The bile salts have considerable ability to lower surface tension, ∴ capable of emulsifying fats (micelle formation).
b) Neutralization of acid - The bile is a reservoir of alkali.
c) Excretion of cholesterol, and also many drugs, toxins, bile pigments, inorganic substances (e.g., Cu, Zn & Hg), etc.

********

Wonder how it stacks up with that old healing black salve down at the barn, in which cow's teat dilator wicks were shipped. Or the Cloverine salve, sold door to door, good for warts, moles, sore holes, and pimples on the nipples.

Hmmmmm.

Cheap & Easy anti-fungal. Papayas have to get planted on jungle floors packed with decaying yucky stuff, right? The seeds (which taste yucky) are packed with natural anti-fungals way less toxic to your liver than the stuff MD’s will perscribe to you

1. Get papayas, extract seeds and wash
2. Put clean seeds in blender
3. Pour in a liter of cheap vodka, blend 2 min
4. Let sit for a couple hours
5. Strain, drink 1/2 shot every other night for 2 weeks

You will be rid of most intestinal parasites, and most of your Candida Albicans will be killed off.

TASTES YUCKY, but cheap and works —good for gross toenails, too.
