Let’s say the story is true and a mafia guy did a ‘hurt’ on Harry. If you were a Republican and thinking of running for the senate seat...wouldn’t you sit there and think about this...worrying a bit that they will eventually come to you for a favor that you might not be able to deliver on?
And the other question...what favor did Harry have to deliver? Tax code? Property deal with the feds. Something related to DEA? Banking code fix for money-laundering?
If you don’t take favors from the mob, you won’t owe them favors.

Do you remember when 0 was first inaugurated? I mean just about week one. One of the very first things he and Holder did was round up about-IIRC-a hundred or so of the top East Coast Mafia. Then it just stopped. I thought that he might have gone inland to, oh say maybe Chicago and keep picking them up, but no. As fast as he started he just stopped and I haven't heard another word about the Mafia in the six years since.
