Senator Ted Cruz's Contradictory Position on Illegal Immigration
American Thinker ^ | March 28, 2015 | Allan J. Favish

On March 23, 2015, United States Senator Ted Cruz of Texas gave a speech announcing that he is running for the Republican nomination for President. In his speech he said the following about illegal immigration:

Instead of the lawlessness and the president’s unconstitutional executive amnesty, imagine a president that finally, finally, finally secures the borders.

And imagine a legal immigration system that welcomes and celebrates those who come to achieve the American dream.

Missing from Sen. Cruz’s speech was anything about how the nation should treat the illegal immigrants who are here. Sen. Cruz’s position on this point has been contradictory.

It’s nice to have simple rubrics so you don’t have to think for yourself.

What ever happens we can not have a repeat of has happened in the last 2 election cycles were we had a whole field of canadates splintering up the votes, support and funds.

In order to win need to make a decision to get behind one canadate early so that the Jebbies, the Paulie’s, the Hucksters won’t get the nomination.

It’s not being disingenuous and actively working against us - it’s that they do publish a wide range of conservative, or conservative leaning articles - the editors themselves range from being pretty much straight Reagan Tea Party types to some that are down the line establishment.

I would say on balance, they run more that “we” like than not.

I’m backing Cruz but will go easy on Walker. Walker isn’t perfect but he stands head and shoulders above Little Jebbie and Chunky C.

“WTF? This guy didn’t read.”

The inclusion of “not” doesn’t affect the point the author is attempting to make. The author claims that the amendments Cruz proposed to the ‘comprehensive’ immigration bill would allow those currently here illegally to remain with certain restrictions on entitlements and with no pathway to citizen ship. The author claims this does not “respect the rule of law” hence the claim that Cruz position is contradictory.

Not trying to defend the author who I disagree with.

The border issue is the only one that matters for 2016. Even if the right President gets elected, and the right Congress too, it will take a while to get a good bill passed - then years to get the border fully secured.

Whatever deportation fantasies people might want to engage, that’s probably a minimum of two elections away. For today, the top 3 immigration priorities are the border, the border and the border.

Nothing else matters.

And since mass deportations are no where on the immediate horizon, and since this was an amendment to a bill with Harry Reid as Leader still, the author’s main point is still BS.

Divide and conquer. Seems to work very well against conservatives. Especially, since the GOP will NEVER contradict an accusation thrown at a conservative candidate.

I agree that real proven border security must come first. Anything else is de facto amnesty because deported illegals simply return again.

At the same time we can get rid of Obama’s executive memos, actions, and orders while working on taking the lures away.

YEP YEP - and I would argue that now, the biggest lures are the give aways - those are far more cancerous than the job lure. The gov handout carrot brings in the laziest, lousiest, most liberal thinking immigrants.

The first people I would go after for deportation are the illegal alien open border activists and I would make it visible

Senator Ted Cruz Announced his candidacy for President in a speech this week, so we put together some of his past quotes on the issue of immigration

Amnesty for illegal aliens:

“The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,” SOURCE

Cruz opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants and the Obama administration’s new directive allowing many young illegal immigrants brought to the US as children to be exempted from deportation. SOURCE

“President Obama has decided this election will be a referendum on amnesty,” Cruz asserted. “We cannot solve this crisis at the border until we end President Obama’s amnesty.” SOURCE

“I think that is profoundly unfair to the millions of legal immigrants who have followed the rules, who have waited in line,” SOURCE

“And I think that’s unfortunate. I think right now, the single greatest impediment of common-sense immigration reform passing is President Obama, because I think there’s a consequence of insisting on a path to citizenship: It makes it far more likely that immigration reform will be voted down altogether, and that would be a very unfortunate outcome.” SOURCE

High-tech foreign worker visas:

“I was pleased today to offer legislation that would have improved and expanded legal immigration by dramatically increasing the cap for high-tech temporary worker visas.” SOURCE

On Immigration Enforcement:

“There is overwhelming bipartisan support outside of Washington that we need to finally secure our borders, enforce our laws, and stop the problem of illegal immigration...But that’s not going to happen as long as the president is ordering Border Patrol officers not to enforce the law.” SOURCE

On Obama’s Executive Amnesty:

“Republicans in Congress should use every tool at our disposal—our constitutional checks and balances—to stop President Obama’s amnesty...both Houses should use the power of the purse, which the Framers understood to be the most potent tool Congress has to rein in an out-of-control Executive.” SOURCE

On The Border:

“In 2012, President Obama lawlessly granted amnesty to some 800,000 people here illegally who entered as children. And the direct consequences of that lawlessness, of that amnesty, is that we’ve seen the number of children taking the incredible risks that are entailed with coming across the border grow exponentially” SOURCE

“With respect to securing the border, the Obama Administration has handcuffed the courageous men and women who serve in Border Patrol. Morale in ICE is at an all-time low because the political operatives leading this Administration are preventing them from doing their job and upholding the law.” SOURCE

“There is overwhelming bipartisan support outside of Washington that we need to finally secure our borders, enforce our laws, and stop the problem of illegal immigration,” he concluded. “But that’s not going to happen as long as the president is ordering Border Patrol officers not to enforce the law.” SOURCE

“This is a system that produces human tragedy,” Cruz continued. “And the most heartbreaking aspect of this gang of eight bill is it will perpetuate this tragedy. It will not fix the problem. It will not secure the borders.” SOURCE

Of course, if you removed the welfare hand outs - you wouldn’t have to go after anyone. They’d leave on their own.

With 600 million people south of our porous non-existent southern border and untold millions outside the Americas who might also avail themselves of easy access, there can be only one immigration policy that takes away the incentives to cheat the system and enter illegally. Stop giving prizes for illegal entry. Reverse the incentives in order to make legal entry the more attractive path.

Any measure that permits those who entered illegally to benefit from that illegal act is amnesty.

Right-click this image and save it. When you get fundraising solicitations, include a copy. Send a copy to your Senators and Reps. Send copies to your friends and family and ask them to do likewise.

As other FReepers have noted...they did that in AZ, and it worked!

OF COURSE it worked. There’s no way it would NOT work.

And while we’re at it, we need to pare down hand outs to citizens as well. Welfare is more closely related to immigration than any other issue, period....both for illegals and citizens - (in two different ways).

This is a government caused problem, ALL of it.
