"I am not the only gay person in the NFL," Sam said Thursday. "I'm just saying there is a lot of us. I respect the players that did reach out to me and had the courage to tell me that they were also gay, but they do not have the same courage as I do to come out before I even played a down in the NFL.
"The players who have reached out to me and told me about their sexual orientation, it just means a lot. But I will never say anything about who they are, what teams they are (on). I'm just saying there's some famous people, and I'm not the only one."

Did I miss something? Since when is Sam ‘in the NFL’?
So why did he come out??? Another thread indicated that he didn’t think it would be a big deal, and sounds as if he regrets some of what has happened.
ON the other hand, would he have even been drafted in the NFL draft in the first place, if not for having declared his homosexuality???
And lost in all of this, is that NFL people tell us that he’s a marginal NFL player at best. How many other last round draft choices make it in the NFL? Some do, but such players are rare. Michael Sam would have had to overcome some stiff odds to make it in the NFL.
Who cares. The guy thinks he is going to rich because of this. He is not a good enough player.
The conflation of courage and one’s sex life is mystifying.
Maybe the players who are actually good enough to play in the NFL want to emphasize their performance rather than claiming some special status to try to get special treatment.
what is his problem? If what he says is true, playing in the NFL as a discreet gay would not have been a problem. Any team that would take him is insane....telling locker room secrets and all that.
The challenge has been laid...are all the wide receivers and tight ends up to the task?
This guy should be working on a fishing boat right outside of Delacroix.
1.5% of 1696 players is 25. Yeppers. Around 25 players roll that way.
Perhaps other gay football players simply want to be known for their football skills, not their extracurricular activities.
“He is not a good enough player.”
Exactly right. He can’t get his head around (no pun intended) the fact that his gay card and race card are not getting him access to the nfl. At least for now sports seem to be one of the few places left where you must be a best performer to get hired, not skin color or sexual preference or any other inane reason.
Yo, Michael.. for your info, YOU’RE not in the NFL.
Sounds like his next step may be to start naming names. Those homo boys can be very vindictive.
I don’t know about courage, but it would appear that they at least had some talent.
What this idiot should remember is that no one gives a smelly Obamahole about who this guy boinks and where he boinks them.
So, may this loser get a room, STFU, and do whatever he’d like.
Quietly.
Maybe they know being a sodomite isn’t exactly right or normal.
Oh, for Pete’s sake! It’s over Mr. Sam. OK? It’s over. You didn’t make it into the league. They didn’t want you. Go home. Go pour yourself a comso, put on some Bette Midler and tell your troubles to your man. OK? Go home.
Agreed. Using the words ‘courage’ and ‘pride’ are merely a self-aggrandizing effort to rationalize their deviancy. Proof that they are fully aware that they are aberrations in humanity.
