This is interesting. Don’t know if it applies to all handicapped people.

“It stipulates that the employer cannot give notice of termination to the disabled employee without consent of the Social Authority. This means, as soon as a blind or a visually impaired employee has been working longer than 6 months in a job, he/she has a protection against unlawful dismissal so strong that it is considered by some critics an impediment for employment. Some employers argue that they are deterred by the thought that they will not be able to fire disabled employees who are not meeting their expectations.”

If I recall correctly, his pilot license was getting ready to expire in a few months.

Germany’s Federal Aviation Office has confirmed that Lubitz had a ‘medical condition’ noted on his pilot’s medical certificate.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Holger Kasperski, a spokesman for the office, would not say if the note related to the co-pilot’s mental or physical state.

He said: “We have a pilot license and a medical certificate. There is a SIC record.

“SIC means specific regular examination. We don’t know what [condition] it refers to.”
