Is Scott Walker done?

I've taken a lot of heat for reporting on the many, many inconsistencies and "evolutions" in Scott Walker's positions, but I think Walker has finally broken an egg that can't be re-shelled. He reportedly endorsed amnesty not six years ago, not two years ago, but two weeks ago, in a private group dinner:

... during the March 13 New Hampshire dinner, organized by New Hampshire Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Horn at the Copper Door Restaurant in Bedford, Mr. Walker said undocumented immigrants shouldn’t be deported, and he mocked 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s suggestion that they would “self-deport,” according to people who were there.

Instead, they said, Mr. Walker said undocumented immigrants should be allowed to “eventually get their citizenship without being given preferential treatment” ahead of people already in line to obtain citizenship.

“He said no to citizenship now, but later they could get it,” said Bill Greiner, an owner of the Copper Door restaurant. Ken Merrifield, mayor of Franklin, N.H., who also attended, said Mr. Walker proposed that illegal immigrants should “get to the back of the line for citizenship” but not be deported. Three separate sources at the dinner confirmed Walker’s remarks to the Journal.

To be fair, Scott Walker's spokesman denies making these comments, but he's lost all credibility. Three separate sources confirmed he said this. He has been publicly pro-amnesty for many, many years, going back as recently as two years ago.

For more than a decade before seriously entertaining a presidential campaign, Mr. Walker publicly favored a broad overhaul of immigration laws.

One correction to my above, it looks like the owner of the restaurant went on record about the comments.

The problem when this stuff comes up is that Walker has no track record in DC to back up his rhetoric. GWB could say what he wanted in the campaign then do some very anti-conservative, anti-Constitutional things once he got to DC. Because of that, Walker should be very open in who he talks to and what he says.

What I find most upsetting here is Walker was at a private metting with NH Republican Party leadership, that always supports backstabbers. (examples: Scott Brown and Kelly Ayotte) Whatever would he want to say to them in private that he wouldn't want recorded for the public to hear?

I like the idea of Cruz/Paul. Paul will be a magnet for younger voters who haven't committed to a political view yet.

Great recap of my Sen Ted Cruz’ resume.

See link at post #13...for EVEN more Ted Cruz credentials to add to that list - for the time he worked at the DOJ and the FTC...under the Bush-Cheney admin. VERY impressive.

CRUZ or lose...2016!

Bet there is a tape out there somewhere, doctored or not. This is how “they” plan to take Walker out.

If Walker has good campaign war room operatives, the two guys who did go on the record (the restaurant owner and the mayor) are probably being looked at for connections to other candidates.

So if these are BS allegations, it will still be a good test of Walker’s ability to fight back.

Rewarding them with work permits is defacto amnesty.

To many out of work citizens to be allowing illegal invaders to stay..

Come to think of it, I can think of NO reason to allow illegal invaders to stay.

There is such a thing as a bridge too far with “lesser evils”. I would look long and hard before voting for Walker, I think he is a natural salesman and that’s pretty much the sum total of his skill set. If he doesn’t convince me, and soon, that he is capable of wielding power for a good cause I will do a write-in if he wins the nomination.

National Review has always had a peculiar view of Midwestern politics. Anything that happens west of the Beltway is unfamiliar territory for the magazine.

Didn’t the Clinton’s support one of Walkers many opponents during the recall and reelection bids?? They even stumped for the opponents I think.

Walker beat them then, and I think he could beat her now.

But I don’t think he’s my guy. I like Ted better.

Rewarding them with work permits is defacto amnesty.

Work permits are better than some quasi, fine-paying, semi-citizen status. I would rather give them work permits than citizenship.

Both Cruz & Walker do not support deportation.

Curious how the author of this piece doesn’t even use his/her real name, preferring to go under the alias of “Newsmachete.” With all that “openness” he/she could be a Bushbot, Clintonoid, or Obamunist. It would be nice to have a bit of disclosure.

anonymous BS don't fall for it.

You see, when you use an anonymous source... you can say ANYTHING. I heard from an anonymous source for instance that Hillary was seen eating aborted babies.

See how that works?

There is an appeal to that in a spaghetti Western “I said DANCE! You flea-bitten varmet” kind of a way, considering he’d be headed for Washington ;)

It’s the first step..

I doubt it will be the last.

While Cruz and Walkers position on the issue is the best so far, I am looking for someone who will actually NOT reward this illegal activity.

Frankly, I think we do ourselves a disservice by focusing on the amnesty question too much. The first order of business has to be stopping the inflow of illegals entering the country. How we deal with the ones already here is a question to be tackled later - because it won’t do one whit of good if we don’t secure the border first.

Deport them? An open border lets them waltz right back in.

Give them any kind of amnesty? The next ones coming in will just start making demands all over.

No solution is a good solution as long as it doesn’t address the most important issue.

Walker’s opponets were very weak. He just doesn’t seem to explain himself well. Maybe I am wrong, we’ll see when the campaign really ramps up and the debates get going. I’ll be listening and will give him his chance.

Even though I live next door to WI I’ll admit, I did not pay a whole lot of attention to the races.
