And so it begins. Ted Cruz announced Monday, the first major Republican to declare for the presidency. More will soon follow. I am happy because I suffer from a deep, bizarre and pretty American aberration: I love politics. Politics is serious, earnest, crucial, necessarythe venue in which we decide much of our countrys future. Beyond that I love the great game of itthe wins and losses, flubs and failures. The mess, the occasional glory. Even at its most disappointing high politics is the greatness game. Its necessitiescaring, taking part, votingremind us that, as Laurens van der Post once said, we are living not only our own lives but the life of our times.
Every four years political enthusiasts, especially younger ones, say earnestly that this is the most important election of our lifetimes. Many of us have lived through more than one of those. But I can say what this election will most assuredly be, at least on the Republican side: anything but boring. On the Democratic side Hillary Clinton may wind up debating herself on an empty stage with good lighting. But Republicans will have Scott Walker, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, Marco Rubio and probably John Kasich duking it out. Add Carly Fiorina, and some others. There are some great debaters in that group, serious talents with big accomplishments and very different views....

Only further cements my interest...
Hey Peggy...do you have plenty of food for the global warming apocalypse?
I hate it every time an article by her pompous snootiness pops up. She is SO condescending ALWAYS.
2nd ,
I’m sorry, but you should be banned. WHY was there NO BARF WARNING?
Just asking.
Oldplayer
She won't be finding any global warming food and water for trade at my house.
“Peggy Noonan” is a barf warning. X3.
Can’t access WSJ, which is just as well. The more Cruz draws out the nays ers and haters, the more he gains. Lots of free advertising, especially if he makes sure that every real contact with him by a voter shows a warm, intelligent, and reasonable candidate. I like what I have seen so far, even if more than a little suspicious of his commitment against amnesty.
Yes! I NEVER forgot that and everytime I see her column I remind myself of the idiotic statement that she made before Obama’s first election....that he deserved to be elected “Because it’s the Democrats’ turn.” Like the presidency was a swingset! Embarrassing to intelligent Moms everywhere!
What I really hate is when the pundits approach politics like it is a sporting event, a competition that color commentate from their sky boxes, and have little concern for the American citizens whose lives are really affected.
Noonan, a speechwriter for Reagan, is outraged Cruz doesn’t need anybody to write his speeches for him to read off the teleprompter. ‘Too smooth’ = ‘unfair extemporaneous talent’.
She also used to be a very cute young lady some time before that... quite a time before that.
Now she's just an overthehill old woman willing to rent herself out again, and again, so she can remain relevant with the right people.
Watershed event: an Obama voter says Cruz is a major Republican
Gee, I should have known. You are right. What more warning is needed?
Oldplayer
I wish just once someone would ask one of these clowns, “And what are your qualifications for determining who should be President”
So full of themselves, geesh!
Peggy, you ignorant slut
She’s still alive?
“Too-Smooth means hes in CRUZ-CONTROL.”
Love it.
