Britain could be linked with America by road as part of an ambitious project to create the world's longest superhighway spanning half the circumference of the globe.
Proposals have been put forward to build the mega route stretching about 12,400 miles from the western edge of Russia to the Bering Strait where the country nudges Alaska.

They would need to put the road across the tundra in siberia on Giant “Case-ons” and also put a roof over it to prevent it snowing over in the winter...
That would probably cost more than crossing the Bering straight...
Imagine a round trip would put 28K miles on your car. With a car using regular oil that would require 4 oil changes and half the life of your tires. A car getting 28 miles to the gallon would take 1000 gallons of gas and about 35 days to do a round trip drive.... I will stick with the Airplane! For the cost to drive you could buy a first class ticket!
They beat the dog sled racers by quite a bit this year.
Why?
Russian drivers, providing hours of YouTube entertainment.
Deathrace 2000 (the original not the terrible remake)
Very impressive, although a bit crazed by my tenderfoot standards.
no, there are not at all any ferries going across the Bering Strait.
That may very well be the luckiest guy, ever.
Indeed. The people who do that kind of racing are some incredibly hardened people, but it is nothing I’d want to experience.
Great!! We can have more psychos enter our country more easily.
The enviro weenies will never allow this. It might harm the habitat of some insect.
Like driving from Beaumont to El Paso and back......6 times! and without the BBQ stops.
The shortest distance across the Bering Straight is less than sixty miles. All things considered, building a bridge that long would be among the easier aspects of a project like this.
A number of years ago I had this idea to go on the Longest “road trip” ever.
The rules.
Travel from point “A” to point “B” on the most direct route, (no driving back and forth)
No ferry’s.
The idea could be funded by all the products you would need to complete the trip.
Auto maker
Tire Manufacture
Engine oil
Windshield wipers
GPS system
Energy bars/drinks
Camping gear
Video camera system
Satellite Phone
Etc etc ...
I was thinking a trip from the southern most tip of South America to Alaska might be possible Or Eastern Russia to South Africa, which would be longer. Both would have serious challenges.
It’s never going to happen. Anyways, Britain and America are two nations divided by a common language.
I though Russia had 11 time zones. As for their drivers I love watching youtube videos of their accidents. They're the kinds of things you'd expect to see on the roads surrounding the Kennedy Compound.
