‘There is zero difference between Buddhists in India horrified at all the Americans eating cows, and narcissistic Americans horrified at South Koreans eating dogs.’
Spot on.
In a small town in ROK I passed a store with cats and dogs in cages and it spilled out into the street. It WASNT a pet store.....
I had only been in Vietnam a short time and saw some hind quarters hanging up in a village. I made a remark about the deer being very small. I was told that they were dog hind quarters.
A cow isn’t happy to see you when you come home.
If it were just about eating dog there wouldn’t be an issue. Bone appetit. However at least some Oriental cultures mistreat the dogs on purpose for some mystical buzz. But the bible says a righteous man is kind to his beast.
Asians don’t just eat dog. They eat all kinds of interesting stuff: Cats, monkeys, horses, snakes, rats and anything that ever swam to name a few.
Right on the money. When I served in Korea it amazed me at how easily my fellow Americans ignored how offensive eating beef or pork was in many parts of the world, but they’d act like eating dogs were right there with late term abortions or worse. I love my dogs, but I don’t forget that they are just dogs.
It’s not true that Hindus are all vegetarians. Most of them will eat some meats and fish.
However, almost universally, they won’t eat beef. As I understand it, the Hindu people don’t ‘worship’ cattle, as some in the West believe; they *honor* cattle, for their usefulness and gifts to the diet and the earth: milk, butter, cheese, fertilizer.

Glad to see you early in the morning, too...

Human meat is good too. Mmmmm, with some fava beans.
LOL! Was waiting for someone to mention fava beans.
There is something very special about a dog. They have a brain and a mind that causes them to identify with humans in a way that no other animal does. It’s quite uncanny.
They have done a lot of testing on dogs brains and the way they think. I won’t say killing a dog is like killing a person; that’s ridiculous and a leftist concept. But I will say a dog is special. It’s not like a cow. A dog will search your face to try and understand your feelings. That is proven - no other animal does that - not even the primates.
Mark 7:18-19
18 And He *said to them, Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and [g]is eliminated? (Thus He declared all foods clean.)
There’s other passages that say God’s cool with eating any animal. The only real rule against eating certain meats has more to do with their being used for sacrifices to idols. Even then it’s more about bringing down your weaker brothers than it actually being harmful to your own soul.
“A dog will search your face to try and understand your feelings. That is proven - no other animal does that - not even the primates.”
Well a cat will search your face as well. It’s just the indifferent shrug that comes afterwards that makes some people think that they don’t.
Re: “...their bark and grass stew.”
Reminds me of a Woody Allen movie I saw decades ago.
Allen is in prison, standing in the cafeteria line, as the narrator says, “Inmates get only one hot mail a day. A bowl of steam.”
?
“And the NK wish they and a dog or two to put in their bark and grass stew.”
Bark stew have real bark!
Dog meat was a major staple for many American Indian tribes. It had many advantages over hunting: you always had your meat supply close at hand and instead of traipsing over hill and dale for deer or elk, all you had to do was call "Here Spot" or Indian equivalent, for your dinner BBQ.
"Old Gabe" aka Jim Bridger, king of the Mountain Men, developed a taste for dog meat as did many of the Rocky Mountain trappers of that era. While they preferred "buffalo hump," the fatty part of the bison's back, dog meat was always welcome when they became a mite puckish. When people are very hungry they'll eat anything, including each other. Cannibalism was a terrifying daily occurrence in Stalin's genocide of the Ukrainian Kulaks.
So it’s ok if the Indians come over here and steal a bunch of cattle to “save” them. Ok, got it.
