A body found in a New Jersey river is that of missing Wall Street Journal reporter David Bird, who disappeared more than a year ago, authorities announced Thursday.
Bird's remains were pulled from the Passaic River by dive teams Wednesday about a mile from where he vanished -- on the border of Morris and Somerset counties.
Bird, an avid hiker and father of two, was last seen by his family on Jan. 11, 2014, as he was leaving his Long Hill Township, N.J., home to go on a walk.

One has to wonder what sort of story or stories he had been working on prior to his disappearance.
One imagines any investigation into his death would need to look at that. But such is not for the faint-hearted.
I tried to find any articles he had written previous to his disappearance..and posted on the papers website..to no avail.
I suspect that they dont leave missing contributors names in their search categories for very long periods of time.
Yes and why didn’t he take his cell phone.
Were I Hillary Clinton Id glibly suggest that dong so would have been Inconvenient. As I’m not....Id like to thank you for sharing your sharp eyed observation!
I’m curious the condition of a body missing 14 months turning up in a river. Did they find just body parts? Was it in a bag? No I didn’t read the entire article :)
Ive just tried to find the article using the Internet Archives “wayback Machine”. T
They have the August 2113 paper archived but I wasn’t able to locate the article named in the Was Street On Parade posting.
Id bet that somebody didnt want the average joe investor to know anything about the subject of the article
I usually CCW when I hike alone, just for this reason.
I’ve commented prior about the mysterious lack of investment fund failures in the wake of the ‘oil crash’, alluding to some ‘insider’ knowledge.
However, I never came across this man’s demise nor his writings.
Very, VERY curious...

Apparently his credit card found its way to Mexico.
I found this part of the article very interesting,
“Bird also connected the Federal Reserves bond buying program as supportive for crude oil and other commodities In other words, oil and other commodity prices would no doubt be slumping further were it not for the $85 billion per month cash infusion into markets by the Fed. (The Fed has trimmed that amount by $10 billion beginning this month.)”
Mystery as credit card of Wall Street Journal reporter who went missing from his New Jersey home on Saturday is used in Mexico
yep a UK publication....
And sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
He was recovering from a gastrointestinal virus when he disappeared, leaving behind his cell phone and vital medication he has to take twice a day for a liver transplant.
not likely and accident nor suicide!
Passaic River...still plenty of bodies yet to be found...
From the photos of him bicycling, he appears to have been physically fit, though not young. Despite the temptation to link his demise with his career, it's not impossible that he suffered some kind of sudden illness such as stroke or heart attack, then collapsed.
Whatever it was, hopefully the family can get some closure and Bird can finally rest in peace.
