McConnell Urges States to Help Thwart Obama’s ‘War on Coal’

WASHINGTON — Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has begun an aggressive campaign to block President Obama’s climate change agenda in statehouses and courtrooms across the country, arenas far beyond Mr. McConnell’s official reach and authority.

The campaign of Mr. McConnell, the Senate majority leader, is aimed at stopping a set of Environmental Protection Agency regulations requiring states to reduce carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants, the nation’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions.

Once enacted, the rules could shutter hundreds of coal-fired plants in what Mr. Obama has promoted as a transformation of the nation’s energy economy away from fossil fuels and toward sources like wind and solar power. Mr. McConnell, whose home state is one of the nation’s largest coal producers, has vowed to fight the rules.

Since Mr. McConnell is limited in how he can use his role in the Senate to block regulations, he has taken the unusual step of reaching out to governors with a legal blueprint for them to follow to stop the rules in their states. Mr. McConnell’s Senate staff, led by his longtime senior energy adviser, Neil Chatterjee, is coordinating with lawyers and lobbying firms to try to ensure that the state plans are tangled up in legal delays.

You know full well Congress has powers, such as spending, holding back nominations, etc.

Yet you avoid acknowledging those powers that congress have...but chose not to use.

Funny how these leftist fascists claim the sun does not affect climate, yet they want to generate a significant amount of energy from solar. And is not absorbed sunlight exactly what they claim is causing warming ? According to their own idiotic theories they are basically replacing CO2 with solar panels. No warming reduction.

I think it would be a lovely thing - since coal is VERY important to Mitchie - if they all talked like the were going to back his play, made all the right noises...then at the last second the all, very publicly and very loudly said, “oh my, we’ve been impressed by your great leadership, and in the spirit of following the leader we are going to roll over on this one and give it to Obama without a fight. How does it feel, Mitch baby?”

Sure McConnell can do something. Go back to the Senate rules the Rats used
when they had the majority.

Doing just fine. I keep my eye out for threads relating to Amendments Conventions, federalism and Ayn Rand for my 3 ping lists. It keeps me occupied.

The first time I ever saw Louisiana was at Fort Polk in 1971.
After that, I stayed away for a long time.
Later on I came to love the state.

“Hehehehe! Alligator andouille sausage ain’t so bad...really good if ya wrap it in a seafood gumbo.”

True dat!

Alas, also true is that as top predators, ‘gators tend to concentrate mercury in their tissues.

Howsumever - that mercury might stop toe nail fungus.

Or cause ‘em to drop off ? ? ? ?

The 27th amendment is an odd duck. This safeguard to prevent congress critters from raising their own salaries was submitted with the proposed Bill of Rights in 1789, but was not ratified at that time.
So in 1992 the 27th (and last) amendment was ratified by the great state of Michigan.

I believe the Capitol feedlot critters were able to comply with the letter of the law by making their pay raises automatic, after elections.

As CA swineherd Pelosi (or was it Boxer) put it, it messes with their “dignity” to have to do these things you know, bicker over dollars. But they take the money.

Bottom line:
1. the framers anticipated the venality of future ruling classes, but it took two hundred years for it to become evident or important enough to actually do something about it.
2. they also anticipated this country would be in serious trouble when one part of it discovered they could vote themselves payments from the public till.

So if we have one party and the leaders of both parties raiding the treasury, what does that mean?
Trouble in River City. But they’ll just print more money ...

The elimination of coal as a fossil fuel would severely damage the economy.

There are many coal fired generating plants. The operators should simply ignore the EPA mandates and hire armed security. How many SWAT teams can the EPA field? The first few standoffs would finally bring the whole sorry mess into public focus.

Fight back against tyranny.
