WASHINGTON — President Obama signed an executive order on Thursday to set new goals for reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of federal agencies, his latest use of his executive authority to address the root causes of climate change and press private companies and foreign governments to follow suit.
Mr. Obama’s directive orders federal agencies over the next decade to cut their emissions by an average of 40 percent compared with their levels when he won office in 2008, and to increase their use of electricity from renewable sources by 30 percent.
The goals are in line with a commitment that he announced in November as part of a climate agreement with China. In the deal, Mr. Obama said the United States would reduce its emissions of the heat-trapping gases that are warming the planet by 26 percent to 28 percent below 2005 levels by 2025.
They are also part of Mr. Obama’s effort during his last two years in office to use an expansive interpretation of his presidential authority to push ahead with unilateral moves to combat climate change in the face of strong opposition from the Republican-controlled Congress to advancing legislation that would do so.
“We’re proving that it is possible to grow our economy robustly while at the same time doing the right thing for our environment and tackling climate change in a serious way,” Mr. Obama said during a visit to the Energy Department on Thursday to announce the order. “America once again is going to be leading by example.”

I think this has been a gradually evolving nightmare. Long ago the left discovered the lie of the “living”constitution and radical fruitcakes from Warren to Bader-Ginsburg have gotten away with legislating from the bench. But the left grew tired of thst. Too chancy - a real judge might frustrate their plans, too expensive and too lenghty. So they discovered abuse of executive authority and legislation by faceless beaurocrats. And here we are. Sitting in the wreckage of our Republic, governed by Cthulhu in the White House.
Hopefully, we'll be exempt.
Global Warming on Free Republic
The root cause is the sun. Nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way we can be sure the root cause is eliminated.
The only way to accomplish this is to reduce the size of the federal government. Obama just gave us an opening. The tea party needs to be able to estimate the carbon waste of every agency.
I think that graph might be a bit missleading. Most gases (and water vapor) have a higher “Greenhouse Effect” than CO2, so the EFFECT on warming is even LESS than shown.
Coal mine fires in China, which can never be put out, put out more CO2 than all the cars and trucks in the U.S.
China gets another coal-fired plant on line every 10 days! And they have this rate planned for the next 10 years. (I didn’t read the article, but I bet it didn’t talk too much about our “agreement” with China.)
Al Gore is still hanging around, and from the looks of his ‘carbon” footprint, waistline, collar size, etc., it is increasing exponentially.
They are hauling a 200 ton lump of coal to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota so they can add Barack Hussein Obama to the Mount Rushmore monument.
B. H. Obama has stated on national TV that he believes himself to be the fourth greatest U.S. President, behind Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln but greater than Theodore Roosevelt.
They had to settle for coal, because they couldn't find a 200 ton piece of bullshit.
Does that mean the empERROR, and the worst lady having to give up AF1 and the separate jets for her, the kids, and the dog?
OH GOODIE! That means he's going to reduce the size of the Federal Government right? Yeah, like that's going to happen. ;-)
If the Puppet would only shut up the methane reduction alone would save the planet.
