MSNBC’s Brzezinski Accuses Cruz of Taking U.S. ‘Down the Road to War’ with Iran Letter

Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski gamely tried to confront Senator Ted Cruz on Tuesday over a letter he and 46 other GOP senators sent to Iran over its nuclear program.

The letter, sent last week to tell Iran’s leaders to inform them that Republicans wouldn’t feel bound by an Iran deal that doesn’t pass Congress, was blasted by the White House and called treasonous by some media outlets.

Brzezinski has railed against the letter every morning since it was sent, and when Cruz appeared on her program, she immediately laid into him. She pushed him on what he thought about Iranian hard liners using the letter to scuttle the talks and asked if it was “intended to get in the way of a deal.”

“It was intended to stop a bad deal — absolutely,” Cruz replied. “The idea that hard liners are using it is utter silliness. If we actually had negotiators that were trying to defend our national security, if anything the letter would help them, because what the letter makes clear is for any deal to be binding, it has to go through Congress.”

“I’m still talk about the fact that you are saying to me that what’s happening now in terms of the hard liners using the letter to stall on these negotiations was actually a part of your intention,” Brzezinski said. “It just seems extremely destructive.”

“Let me ask you something, Mika,” Cruz said. “Is it your position that it’s inappropriate for Congress to rein in the president on foreign policy?”

“I think it’s not inappropriate for Congress to have a say and to have a voice,” she continued. ”But to interfere with a negotiation with Iran, and to actually possibly even undermine a deal in the making — basically the next step to that is to just get right down the road to war.”

“No, it’s not,” Joe Scarborough jumped in. “The choice is not between war and a bad deal . . . Why is it so hard for you to believe that there is a lot of us that think that a bad deal is worse than no deal at all?”

I know. I’m not the Mr. Rogers type though and I’m serious about my politics. FOX at that hour is not.

“It is great entertainment...”

Pure garbage! And you watch it? If you don’t like ‘Fox and Friends’, well, do something productive like going for a walk, or do the dishes...

Oh my, did Joe just have a “moment of clarity”; and end up agreeing with Cruz?

Wow! I never thought I’d see that day.

I like knowing stuff early. I don’t have dishes to do at that hour and a walk in 40 mile/hr wind is no substitute for “great entertainment” at that hour. But, I get your point.

Yes, I dropped radio and use the TV as background to internet.

Comcast has to be on crater alert with the other 99% of their schedule. I don’t know the numbers for Morning Joe, but I’m sure they carry the numbers for the entire flock, because they can pull in conservatives occasionally and are respectful and Mika is the bad cop.

SoCon...I need clarification....this was an “open letter” to Iran...not actually sent?

I must say that it would have been maybe better to have sent such a letter to Obama rather then to spot Iran.....I still support what they did but I wondered why it was an open letter to Obama.......seems to me it would have perhaps been better to do so???? ...and I’m not so sure they didn’t consider that as well but for whatever purpose opted otherwise to Iran.

This is what someone should say to Mika:

“Mika—if you want to sit down with the person responsible for screwing up Iran, go have lunch with your old man.”

I heard that this woman’s ignorance gave Cruz a chance to fill in some of the education she should have gotten in school, but didn’t. These left wing media people just leave you shaking your head.

Hey, Cruz is a radical because he is not a communist.

I normally watch Fox but, as I viewed the entire segment with Senator Cruz on Morning Joe- I have to compliment them-They did a good job with the interview.

There were tough questions, like the segment about the letter- mentioned here, but they also covered other subjects (ie. They asked him if he was running for president- He handled all their questions beautifully.)

Overall it seemed like they gave him a lot of time to answer , and they appeared thorough and more in-depth than some of interview segments I've seen on Fox .

(Fox sometimes has a "hurried" feel to it - like they are rushing to the next guest when you wish they had spent more time with the previous one. (Hannity in particular does this.)And lately it seems like Ted Cruz is not on the top of their interview list anyway. )

This is like accusing Churchill of taking us down the road to war with Germany.

I don't know.

However, given it's effect on the Obama Administration, it seems to have accomplished something positive.

I’m glad to see you also appreciated the MJ format for Cruz.

You picked up on something also, and that is the entire segment was allotted to Cruz, and conservative guests are not given the bum’s rush, the gang chatter interruptions FOX is famous for. Cruz was given time to expound. The questions from the table are never lengthy, so that guests can have time to fully answer.

Amy what’s her name, from the Blaze, was on this morning Jan, in the second hour, and did she have her act together, to blow Mika out of the debate water on her complaints against the Netanyahu victory. A superior mind at work in Amy. It was pretty wonderful, especially since Joe was absent. It had me laughing out loud at her magnificent take down of Obama’s deplorable behavior.
