CONCORD, N.H. Republican upstart Scott Walker yesterday was embraced by a rapturous crowd of hundreds of Granite Staters, who roared appreciation for his red-meat foreign and domestic policy views as he hinted he will be making his candidacy official.
Well be back many more times to New Hampshire, he promised.
Walkers two-day visit came on a swing of early primary states: He was in Iowa last weekend and is headed to South Carolina next. He used his one public appearance at Concord High School to regale the crowd with tales of his humble upbringing, to blast Common Core and to condemn ISIS.
My belief is that, just like a virus in a computer, we need to go to whatever length is required to make sure that we eradicate radical Islamic terrorism where its at before it washes up, Walker said, as the crowd of Republicans attending a party training session erupted in applause. I dont believe that means that you want to automatically go with ground troops, although unlike this president, I will not signal to our enemies how far we will go.
In implicit contrast with GOP front-runner Jeb Bush also visiting the state this weekend Walker took pains to reference his own background, mentioning his days washing dishes and flipping burgers at McDonalds, and name-checking discount retailer Kohls.
I actually stopped by Kohls and bought this sweater in the rack where its 70 percent off, he said, pointing to his sweater. And we paid one dollar for it with our Kohls Cash ... so, living the high life, he added.
The crowd loved it.
Bush is a nice guy, said attendee Philip Miner, 57, of Cheshire County, but his last name is Bush.
It was a great day for the Republican Party, no question about it, New Hampshire Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Horn said. We had 400 grass-roots activists together, energized, excited. Obviously, Gov. Walker was very well-received.
Walker drew whoops and hollers from the crowd when he discussed his Feb. 3 budget proposal removing the legal requirement for schools in Wisconsin to abide by the new educational standards known as Common Core. Walkers first budget as governor supported Common Core in 2011, but he called for repeal last summer.
Im all for high standards, Walker said. But I want those to be set at the local level.
Walker, like Bush, has not officially declared his candidacy but there have been hints. He said yesterday his 19- and 20-year-old sons plan to ditch college this fall to come to New Hampshire.
They twisted our arms to figure out a way to maybe take part of a semester off next year, next fall, to come to New Hampshire, to come around the country and talk to young people like themselves, Walker said.
Not waiting for Walker a famous foe of labor rights to make his candidacy
official, union members rallied outside yesterdays event.
So? The owner also ended up supporting George W. Bush in 2000, after spending endless months trashing him.
Name one piece of pro-illegal legislation that Walker has proposed or signed.
And you've lost the debate.
He has made numerous recent statements that border security is a top priority.
None of what he said in the past materialized into law. He has NEVER proposed or signed any pro-illegal legislation as Governor
All of the current and potential GOP candidates are on record having supported "a pathway to citizenship" in the past.
This debate is about who can you trust going forward.
More on Walker in NH.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Drop the slander. Walker is NOT pro-amnesty.
And, that is why I read the Walker threads, but usually do not post. Apparently, FR is Cruz central (I like Cruz, don’t get me wrong). I like what Walker has done for Wisconsin. Hate to lose him, but if it is for the good of my country, I am willing.
Scott, as he lets me call him, (LOL!) is very much the ‘Everyman’ we need these days.
Love My Gov! :)
“THAT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH! WALKER IS A RINO BECAUSE KOHL’S HIRED AN ILLEGAL ALIEN! I’M STAYING HOME IN 2016! WHO’S GOT THE CRUZ PING LIST? </S>”
Take your blood pressure meds, LOL! You’re gonna need a truckload before January, 2017!
Love My Gov! :)
“Hate to lose him, but if it is for the good of my country, I am willing.”
Agreed.
Thank you, all Wisconsin FReepers for electing this AWESOME man. I will be enthusiastically working for him in southern Arizona. I met him briefly in Tampa and was impressed by his demeanor, and knowing what he was accomplishing in his state, I knew he should run for President; that he would be our best chance to take the office and save our country.
Thank you! I’ll be working for him on this end, too, when the time comes. :)

Imagine a debate between Hillary and Walker.
Nice article, but I really wish proofreading was still done. lol
But, it was a good read.
Caged Death Match. I will accept no less! :)
Same here. The thing is, his leadership in WI has made the entire legislature more conservative this time around. I think they're learning from his example.
Exactly. Our legislature isn’t afraid of the ‘Rats in this town anymore. A VERY good thing! :)
‘Bout freakin’ TIME, too! Dane and Milwaukee Counties have been ALLOWED to run the rest of the state for FAR too long!
