Jeb Bush Is Not the GOP’s Ideal ‘Change’ Candidate (But Hold Your Noses Again)
National Review ^ | March 13, 2015 | Jonah Goldberg

Let us now make the case for Jeb skepticism. Jeb Bush is a fine man. He’s a conservative. He was a highly effective conservative governor. He would probably make a fine president. And, if he were the Republican nominee, there would be precious few good arguments — from a conservative perspective — for sitting out the election, never mind voting for the Democratic nominee (whoever she may be).

If Jeb is a conservative that would require a pretty generous reading of the definition of conservative.

I get the sense Jonah is talking to the hicks here...flyover country. Words have meaning, conservative has meaning.

Jeb Bush...all the Bushes...are progressive Repubs. We have all the 'progressive' we need.

I was talking to one of the money guys the other day. He believes that Shrillary will be the RAT candidate and it will take a boatload of money to beat her. So, the most impressive part of Jeb's resume, I concluded, was the family Rolodex.

...in the same sense Jeffrey Dahmer is not an "ideal" babysitter.

I doubt that the quadrennial ARGUMENTS about “holding your nose” vs. “sending a message” actually sway many people.

What is going to happen naturally, just happens. When the GOP nominates a loser, he loses, because a significant number of people DO simply stay home.

Having read the entire article, I don’t think it’s quite the hagiography to Bush at all. He ends by saying that we want change, and Bush isn’t exactly promising much of it, and Walker and Cruz both represent it in spades.

And, like you, I believe the first thing Bush will have to change is my mind/my vote. It would help if he would also change his past liberalism, fat chance. Since he can’t, I would be very suspicious of any new conservative tone from him.

The faux ‘conservative’ denied Terry Schiavo water and drank champagne as she died of thirst and salient judicial abuse.

B.S....He did everything within reason, short of adopting her, to try to save her....get real.
