Parents of the second Oklahoma University student filmed conducting his Sigma Alpha Epsilon brothers along to a racist chant on a bus have outed their 'disgusting' son - but insist he isn't a racist. Brody and Susan Pettit, from Dallas, issued an apology on behalf of 20-year-old Levi on Tuesday night - three days after he was filmed singing 'There will never be a N**** in SAE' in a sickening video that has shocked the nation. He, along with Parker Rice, a 19-year-old privately-educated former Catholic schoolboy, were immediately expelled by the university president who also booted the disgraced chapter off campus and closed the SAE frat house. The Petit statement said: 'He is a good boy, but what we saw in those videos is disgusting. 'While it may be difficult for those who only know Levi from the video to understand, we know his heart, and he is not a racist.'

Frat boys acting silly? Since when? The way things have been hijacked nowadays, my give a crap meter fails to register.
These kids are not going to sue OU as if they did, they would have to walk into a courtroom and explain how they have the First Amendment right to say that they want to hang blacks from trees.
Link worked for me

While I agree with you, it appears the sons actions are affecting the parents - one article stated they had left their home (not sure if it was fear of reprisals or just to hide their faces)
Let's assume for a moment, one of your kids did this "chant"...is it still a suitable punishment to risk your child being maimed for life?
So it’s not genuine concern for their son that is motivatating them but good old fear and concerns for their own hides?

Oh, a good 1A lawyer could run rings around OU if that was their only move. Failing to apply the same standards to every student organization on campus could be very damaging in a case against OU. And you know that written publications from other campus orgs, plus statements made in student government meetings, plus statements by Leftist professors in Polysci class, undoubtedly contain way worse and more genuinely threatening comments about white folks, and go unrebuked by the administration.
Some of those parents have deep pockets. If they're smart, they'll sue, and make their pockets even deeper.
What needs fighting here is not the merits of a silly song on a private coach. It's the politically driven limits on speech at a state-run entity.
An appropriate solution for the kids would be to spend a few days at an inner city school. Whose integrity should be questioned is the person who filmed and released that stupid rant. It's bad form to take private things and make them public.
Why sue?
The frat boys will sit out a year, spend their days at the country club playing golf and go to Texas Tech next year.
However, they will not get on the stand to defend their right to say:
“There will never be a nigger SAE/There will never be a nigger SAE/You can hang him from a tree/But hell never sign with me/There will never be a nigger SAE.
“I wish certain minorities could learn to laugh things off.”
How does one laugh off a person saying they want to hang them from a tree?
It’s kids being stupid caught up in the moment. Does anyone seriously think they wanted to hang anyone from a tree?
Well what they are is teen aged college students. College students do stupid insensitive things all the time and then go on to mature over time and become upstanding citizens.
The moronic hijinks were despicable and an embarrassment to the university and the National SAE organization but its not murder, its not armed robbery and most importantly its not agains’t the law.
This is protected 1st Ammendment speech as two Black guests had to school Sean Hannity about on his TV show last night. Most telling is the glaring omission about this incident on Sean’s Facebook page today. He looked like a complete idiot last night.
Honestly the things that get said on a weekly basis on college campuses by Muslims and Blacks makes this whole thing pale by comparison. We need to give this story the same amount of vitriol and blowback that the Blacks and Muslims get for their racist mysogynist comments. So basically nothing.
Only whites get kicked out of a public college have their fraternity kicked off with no hearing or appeal and suffer national humiliation over the “N” word. I’m surprised somebody is not trying to put them in prison.
So the next time a black fraternity says something about Whitey, Honkies, blue-eyed devils, etc., can a bunch of white guys kick the crap out of them? Just wondering.
My kids are not racists so they would not be chanting racist slogans.
Works for me.
Expulsion doesn't generally lead to hospitalization.

Laugh off some of these fine examples of published rap music lyrics about whitey...

I hope the president of OU gets sued personally for his hipshot decision to go public on his own with this incident. More and more is coming about about the double standards permitted on his campus, about the raunchy rap group that was previously scheduled but cancelled for example.
Speech is not necessarily protected if it "either intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly inflicts severe emotional distress." I'm sure the university will have no problems finding people will to swear in court that they have been scarred for life as a result of the video.
