Are freepers still uninformed about that fact that corn starch extracted from FIELD CORN, which isn't food, is used to make alcohol? And that the rest of the corn is used in animal feed (i. e. for meat) and other products?
Tax breaks, not subsidies, go to blenders, but processors and farmers took advantage of the ethanol program when it started in 1978. There was an oversupply of corn then so the ethanol program created a new market. Not saying it is as pure as the wind-driven snow (nothing with gov't involvement is), but people need to know what they're talking about.
Unfortunately, ethanol's detractors can be as obnoxious as its supporters. Whichever side we're on, let us freepers get the facts.
