The strange part about that song Hot Rod Race is that back when I was in high school, the 1940s, my father told me about a race he and his cousin Pat were involved in, probably in the late 1920s, before he married my mother. The two of them, in a Model T, got into a race with a Cadillac, somewhere around Johnstown, PA, He said that on the downhill runs they could get ahead of the Cadillac, but couldn't keep up with it on the uphill runs. The Caddy driver finally got tired of it and left Dad and Pat in the dust. There must have been a lot of such races, for anyone to write a song about them.
