GOP 2016: Scott Walker Has the Lead, Jeb Bush Has the Money
The Fiscal Times ^ | March 5, 2015 | Eric Pianin

"......Bush, the son and brother of two former GOP presidents and a strong favorite of businesspeople and other establishment Republicans, was both cheered and booed during his speech at CPAC. He used that platform to defend his more controversial stands on immigration reform and on the Common Core educational standards.

While Walker finished well ahead of Bush in CPAC’s presidential straw poll, 21 percent to 8 percent, Bush is scoring big where it counts a lot more – raising campaign funds in the early going.

Although he has yet to formally announce a candidacy, Bush is on target to raise tens of millions of dollars by the end of March for two political action committees, both called Right to Rise, established in January.

The former governor’s fundraisers have been instructed not to ask donors to give more than $1 million per person this quarter, according to The Washington Post. Bush strategists apparently are concerned that – with so much big money flowing in – the former governor may look beholden to an elite group of donors when he is trying to reach out to grassroots conservatives.

Bush’s spokesperson, Kristy M. Campbell, declined to comment on that issue, The Post reported, while Howard Leach, a veteran GOP fundraiser who recently co-hosted a Bush event in Palm Beach, Florida, confirmed the limit and said, “This campaign is about much more than money. They need substantial funds, but they don’t want the focus to be on money.”

Scott Walker is also doing well on the fundraising front, although he is not in Bush’s league just yet. The governor formed a new political committee last month, Our American Revival, and has assembled an impressive network of contributors in all 50 states.

The nice thing is that JEB has already told me that he isn’t going to pander and he doesn’t want my vote as a Conservative. So that makes things real simple.

Cruz or Walker, all other faux candidates can buzz off.

And I hope to God that Walker doesn't make the same mistake Reagan did and put a "Bush" on his ticket.

That was the worst blunder Reagan every committed.

Romney’s war chest and ability to raise money helped him roll over the others in the primary.

And President H. Ross Perot proved that all it takes is money to win the Presidency.

Felt good for days after, too.

I/m not so sure that money will carry Bush, “results” are what people are looking for a Walker is a “get ‘er done” kind of guy. I’d side with Walker in this case.

Problem is getting the rino’s to select Walker as their candidate. My guess is the media has already helped the demodummies cement Hitlary as their candidate, now their (media’s) job will be to do as much damage to the potential conservative candidates as possible so they (media again)can pick the one they want to lose.

There are always other options on my ballot. I have never not voted, I will not stay home. I do not vote for liberals, even if they have an R jersey on.

Don’t even suggest such a thing. That would be the death of the ticket.

‘Walker-Bush’ ticket in the offing?

That was the same mistake Reagan made in 1980, and we've been paying for it ever since.

Walker is my current favorite.

Problem is getting the rino’s to select Walker as their candidate. My guess is the media has already helped the demodummies cement Hitlary as their candidate, now their (media’s) job will be to do as much damage to the potential conservative candidates as possible so they (media again)can pick the one they want to lose.

The most serious problem the nation currently faces is the fact that the Liberal Democrat media has far too much influence on elections. Until we develop a means to declaw or disable them, we are not likely going to be able to fix the damage they've done for the last fifty years.

That and the asinine allocation of delegates based mostly on a state's population. If conservatives had any sense we would demand that delegate allocations be based on three sets of fifths:

  1. One fifth based on population or a state's electoral votes.
  2. One fifth based on GOP governors, senators, congress seats and houses of the state legislature they control.
  3. Three fifths based on electoral votes actually delivered to the GOP nominee over the last six or so presidential cycles.

And, yes, Wyoming might actually end up with more delegates than Massachusetts under this formula. If it is unfair, then it is unfair to Wyoming, which has delivered 12 of 12 possible electoral votes to the GOP ticket over the last four election cycles whereas Massachusetts has delivered exactly 0.

That was the same mistake Reagan made in 1980

It was the first outing for the entire Bush scam: "elect me, I'm more moderate then that Right Wing Crazy".

Like Boner, they always divide the Republican party for fun and profit.

And the Establishment evolved in the months after to how they handled the same challenges in MS and KS where money wasn’t going to decide the outcome.

Plain old theft.

Hard to say, IMHO. It would generate a lot of buzz until the next big primary a week or two or three later, that is for sure.

But, ultimately, the nominee needs delegates, not buzz to win. That's why the allocation system needs to be reformed; way too many delegates from states which will never, ever vote GOP in November.

Yes, it is only right that they have some representation because they donate big. But donations do not win presidential elections. Electoral votes do.
