Umm...they had a country and a military long before 1948. Israel just took a hiatus for a 1000 or so years.(maybe more or less, I don’t have a time line in front of me)
...as close to a flat-out threat of imminent war as could be delivered in polite company without actually starting one.
Basically, "We have no other choice. We will not be destroyed. If you (the US) and the rest of the civilized world do not stop Iran from getting nukes, then we WILL USE whatever means necessary (cough, cough - no need to spell it out for you, Congress, is there?)"
