The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) proposed last week to prohibit gun companies from manufacturing and selling 5.56mm projectiles for M855 cartridges that provide ammunition for AR-15 rifles.
The Protecting Second Amendment Rights Act, introduced Friday by Rep. Tom Rooney (R-Fla.), would roll back the ATFs power to regulate ammunition.
The Obama administrations proposal would unilaterally strip law-abiding hunters and sportsmen of their Second Amendment rights, Rooney said in a statement. Congress has made its intentions clear that this ammunition is for sporting purposes and should not be restricted. We cannot and we will not stand by while the Obama administration tramples on the Constitution, the rule of law, and the Second Amendment rights of hunters.

I despise talk of “sporting purposes.” I think armor piercing ammo in the hands of citizens for protection is perfectly legitimate. Criminals (who will get them anyway if they want) getting a hold of them legally is a small price to pay for all citizens to be able to defend against an assailant in body armor.
The GOP should immediately defund ATF.

What GOP???
This bill should not just apply to the recent banning of m855/SS109, but also should cover the ban on 7N6 for the AK-74. I want my damn spam cans back!!!

The second amendment is not about hunting and sporting purposes.
Fact: The armor piercing handgun ammunition ban was passed under the guise of protecting Police who wear soft body armor.
Fact: Since all .223/5.56 ammunition will penetrate Police soft body armor, there is no additional safety afforded to Police Officers by banning M855 "Green Tip" ammunition.
Therefore, all Congress need do is to insert a rifle caliber exception to the armor piercing handgun ammunition ban. (Actually, all they need do is to reinsert the rifle caliber exception that was taken out at the last minute when the bill was originally passed.)
Anybody who saw the ATF ban the importation of 7.62x39 steel core ammunition using the same pistol excuse wasn't surprised by the ATF's actions regarding green tip. My only surprise is that it took them so long to do it.
Are they cowards or complicit? Some of both?
The gutless GOPe squishes will do ...nothing.
Correct and the only to defeat BATF is to defund them just like we did DHS for Obama’s immigration BS... Oh Wait !! That didn’t work either.
So?
Put Bastard Barry and all the demonrat bastards in congress on record.
I'd LOVE to see Rat Bastard Joe Manchin forced to vote on a veto override of a bill like this.
The GOP should immediately ABOLISH BATFE ...
What Congress needs to do is pursue impeachment, conviction and punishment for treason. Proposing an act of Congress that essentially is a weak replication of our Second Amendment is a distraction to the real problem—the occupant of OUR White House.
Pathetic, isn’t it? That’s how far we’ve fallen.
Yeah...That is the bottom line, nobody has lost money betting on the cowardice of the GOP.
Yea, and 0b0z0s amnesty, and...
Oh wait...
What?
Hi guy, I hope you are doing well.
Say”hi” to your dad for me.
Not only is the 0bama regime taking control over the Internet, they are trying to ban my tagline.
Bloat.
5.56mm
While I greatly appreciate Rep. Tom Rooney’s bill, I doubt it will become law. Even if it passes the Senate, nobama would veto it as soon as it landed on his desk. And the chances of overturning the veto in the Senate are nil.
Good job Rep. Tom Rooney!
What difference does it make? We have the template for this year - Senate Dems will block, or President will veto - then we go to a clean Bill, ... Did I miss something?
I bet it won’t even pass the senate.
