Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), who has served in Congress longer than any woman in history, will announce at a news conference Monday that she is retiring from the Senate after five terms in office, three people familiar with her plans said.
Mikulski, 78, was the first woman to chair the powerful Appropriations Committe, a post she had to give up this year when the Democrats lost control of the Senate. A social worker turned politician, she has been a forceful presence on many pieces of legislation, passionately liberal on certain issues but also committed to working closely with Republicans.

“Paging Doctor Carson...”
He’s a resident of Florida now. Not that he couldn’t go back and establish residency in MD. I just read over the weekend that he (and Huckabee) are now Florida residents.
They love that lack of income tax, I suspect.
At some point you have to enjoy the money you stole.
Pray America is waking
Good.
In an off-year election. In 2014 it went for Obama by about 25 points. It'll go with the Democrat in 2016 by about the same amount and that'll provide the coat tails for the next senator to be a Democrat.
True, but the goal for many career Reps and Senators is to go from the Capitol Bldg to the funeral home. They enjoy the power even more than the money - and lets face it there is a lot of vacay time for these folks too.
We had one here in Indiana (Julia Carson) who almost achieved it, must a short couple day stint in the hospital in between.
Then they elected her grandson to take the slot.
Making way for O’Malley.
Hillary's apparently running for prez.
He has delusions of President Carson and not Senator Carson so I doubt he'd be interested.
Ping!
If true, that could be used against against him -- but IIRC Dick Cheney was a resident of Texas, and of Wyoming, when he ran for VP.
I wouldn't think it unusual for a retired neurosurgeon to own two, three or maybe even four homes, depending on his retirement leisure activity interests.
Where, exactly, did Hillary live when she ran for the New York Senate seat in 2000? Did she spend more than half of the year in New York? Could she prove it? Where was she registered to vote in 1998? Did she pay taxes to New York state for 2000? Wasn't Bill still living in Washington? (Did the media ask these questions at the time? Of course they wouldn't since she's a Democrat!)
(Carpetbagging seems to be more acceptable for Democrat politicians these days, true.)
Fat chance of that.
Call me a conspiracy theorist if you must, but is it possible the the “lovely” Ms. Mikulski is retring and making way for O’Malley. Let’s face it folks, Maryland is a fairly democratic state and Hillary doesn’t want any competition. For those of you who watched HBO’s “The Wire” it looks like Mayor Carcetti is going to the Senate (if you didn’t know, it is widely believed this fictional character was based on O’Malley)
“Call me a conspiracy theorist if you must, but is it possible the the lovely Ms. Mikulski is retring and making way for OMalley.”
O’Malley announced this morning that he’s not interested in running for her Senate seat.
