BEN GURION AIRPORT, Israel: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu headed to Washington on Sunday on what he said was a historic mission to try and stop a nuclear deal with Iran, an AFP correspondent said.
The controversial 48-hour visit will see the Israeli leader addressing a joint session of the US Congress in a bid to garner last-minute support to halt an emerging world deal with Iran over its nuclear program, in a move which has infuriated the White House.
But Netanyahu, who will also address the annual policy conference of the pro-Israel AIPAC lobby, has refused to back down.
Im going to Washington on a fateful, even historic, mission, he told reporters on the tarmac at Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv shortly before his plane took off.
I feel deep and sincere concern for the security of Israels citizens and for the fate of the state and of all our people, he said.
I will do everything in my power to ensure our future. Netanyahu will address AIPAC on Monday before heading to Capitol Hill on Tuesday after which he will fly home.
Israel believes Iran and world powers are likely to reach a deal that eases international sanctions on Tehran without applying sufficiently stringent safeguards to stop it developing nuclear weapons.
Netanyahus trip comes just four weeks before a March 31 deadline for a political framework, with negotiators intending to pin down the final technical details by June 30.
It also comes just two weeks before a March 17 general election in Israel where Netanyahu is hoping to be re-elected for a third consecutive term in office.
Go get em Bibi! Good luck!
Go Bibi! Stick it to Pharoah and Kerry and their clueless minions!
Praying for Bibi & Israel. Hope his supporters come out to support him.
Prayers up for Bibi, for a safe, triumphant, and fruitful journey.
Shalom.
Anyone know what parties make up Netanyahu’s coalition currently? I know that one of the parties who joined with him in 2013 is now allied with Labor. What about the rest?
Unfortunately, no matter what Mr. Netanyahu says, there are not enough patriots in either the House or the Senate to make a difference. The Republicans who cave to Obama on every issue and every crucial vote are not going to suddenly wake up and change.
Bibi may give a great speech. I give the man credit for trying. However, talking to the Democrats, and most of the Republicans, in Congress about imminent danger is like warning Neville Chamberlain about Hitler. It is going to take the bombs raining down on their heads, or Homeland Security taking some of them off to camps in the middle of the night, before the current crop of legislators is going to begin to realize the danger. By then it may be too late.
Netanyahu will come and speak to great applause from the GOP members of Congress who attend the session. The politicians of the left and the national media will condemn his remarks and Boehner for inviting him. McCain, Graham, and other members of the GOP will rush to the cameras in order to express grave concern. Then, as evening falls, the Congress critters of both parties will gather as social friends at cocktail receptions and lobbyist paid dinners enjoying the most expensive alcohol and food money can buy. After dinner they will quietly slink back to cozy hotel rooms or comfortable homes with their current sex partners to share a warm bed while the NSA dutifully collects and records their activities.
The Israeli Prime Minister will fly home and 48 hours later his words will be forgotten in America. The news cycle will go back to trashing potential Republican candidates, the POTUS will continue relentlessly driving his agenda through rhetoric and imperial decrees, the citizens of the third world will continue to stream across the open borders, the average citizens who still have jobs will continue laboring away for the few coins the government allows them to keep, the privileged welfare class will continue demanding more favors, the elites will continue to watch their wealth increase thanks to the money printing of the Federal Reserve and the benefits of insider trading or lucrative government contracts, ISIS will continue beheading Christians, and the escapades of the Kardashians will continue to distract the attention of the average brainwashed voter. As the nation’s attention shifts to the NCAA basketball tournament, the Iranians, Russians, Chinese, North Koreans, George Soros, Cass Sunstein and others continue actively plotting our destruction. The day of reckoning moves closer with every tick of the clock. When will the music stop?
God be with you, Bibi, there are many here and around the world who want to see you destroyed.
Now that is real honest to God pessimism
the question becomes, what will tip the balance?
so long as conservatives remain fragmented and apathetic,...... nothing
Sadly, people are living in denial.
God Bless Bibi!
If our Christians and Jews do not unite and take our country back, Obama will hand it to ISIS.
Any member of Congress who boycotts Netanyahu’s speech stands with ISIS.
May the God of Abraham be with him.
Amen!
Let us pray for his safety on this journey, and for God to have mercy on us for turning our back on Israel.
We are looking at a real leader in action, not the Alinsky Communist gay Muslim fagoid we have in the Oval Office.
May America be able to survive him and to always be a friend to Jewish people everywhere, and especially to the nation of Israel.
It is telling that the Regime would prefer to side with Iran. If there is a nuclear holocaust, Obama will be responsible.
This is a must see....
Then it's like Bohener couldn't held himself. Which only tends to reinforce my suspicion that his invitation from the House leadership came more from an act of God.
I hope the Israelis have their war plans against Iran’s nuclear program complete and ready to go. They are going to need them really soon.
