Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) came out swinging against members of his own party Thursday, telling a conference of conservative activists that GOP leaders in Congress had sold out to Democrats on immigration and that presidential contenders should be judged by their willingness to stand up to the party establishment.
The biggest division we have in the country is not between Republicans and Democrats, Mr. Cruz, a likely 2016 presidential contender, told the Conservative Political Action Conference. It is between career politicians in Washington and the American people.
If you are really a conservative you will have been in the trenches, you will bear the scars, he said.
While some potential candidates speaking to the conference took potshots at other potential candidates in the GOP field — such as when New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie took a veiled swipe at Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker for seeming to shift his position on abortion — Mr. Cruz seemed to take aim at almost the entire field for being all talk and insufficiently combative.
We need to look to people who walk the walk. If a candidate says they oppose Common Core, fantastic. When have you stood and fought against it? he said, referring to the education standards.
Mr. Cruzs speech was well received by an audience that generally comes to the annual conference expecting that kind of conservative red meat.

Talk about lukewarm. I’m sure the old, tired WSJ will manage to sound a little more enthused about Jeb’s appearance at CPAC.
He ought to take a friggin' baseball bat to 'em!
Cruz/Walker - Walker/Cruz
At least the WSJ covers Cruz. Fox personalities ignore him, mostly in favor of the GOPe candidates and a few less favored candidates who are being actively trashed by the GOPe and their democrat partners.
Cruz came out swinging at Politicians in Washington. Last time I checked, the only people in Congress considered as potential candidates are Ron Paul and Marco Rubio. So, I assume he doesn’t have a problem with the rest of the field such as Governors or Former Governors.
I can live with either one heading the ticket but both of them have to be the GOP ticket next year.
Agreance, but, I would like to see a commitment to put someone like Alan West in as Sec of State to get rid of the Clinton/ Kerry stink.
[Cruz/Walker - Walker/Cruz Cruz/Walker maybe.
Walker/Cruz never!]
The two of them should come together and decide between themselves who is the stronger candidate, then go with a conservative ticket.
Did anyone contest the leadership of George Washington for President? True patriots back then evaluated themselves for the greater good.
America has come full circle - Conservatives need to unite or forever lose their freedom. Too much is at stake in 2016.
Personally, I think a tough, no nonsense skilled diplomat like John Bolton is needed there. West is more suited to be the next Secretary of Defense.
I agree. That squishy record he has in (blue) Wisconsin proves your point.
There is a story about Kissinger that he brought all the department heads into his office one at a time and showed them a globe. He then asked them to point out their country. When they pointed to Yemen or France or Argentina, Etc. He would turn to the US and say “This is your country and don't forget it!”
That's what a diplomat does.
An Alan West would say “The United States is your country! Now pick up your last check and don't let me ever see you again!”
Im sure the old, tired WSJ will manage to sound a little more enthused about Jebs appearance
....ahh good old lefty Janet Hooker from the LA Times, now writing from the “business friendly” WSJ, all to be taken with a huge mound of salt (not a grain anymore)....
ymmv
Why would you assume that, and what in the world do you think he should have done? The problems facing you and I have not a damned thing to do with governors or former governors running - it has to do with all of Washington at this moment. Cruz will not win the nomination tearing down the other Republicans - he'll win it by running against Washington and the Democrats and the estab Republicans better than anyone else.
Wow....just wow....how in the world could the "stronger candidate" thing be decided? It couldn't. That's why we run what's known as "campaigns."
The Current FReepathon Pays For The Current Quarter's Expenses?
I completely agree.
That’s why we run what’s known as “campaigns.”
Just a suggestion to save the candidates a lot of $$$$. :)
