Senate Panel Backs Loretta Lynch as Attorney General

WASHINGTON—The Senate Judiciary Committee voted Thursday to move Loretta Lynch, President Barack Obama ’s nominee for attorney general, to the Senate floor for a final confirmation vote.

The committee approved the nomination of Ms. Lynch, currently Brooklyn’s U.S. Attorney, by a vote of 12 to 8. Republican Sens. Jeff Flake of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Orrin Hatch of Utah joined all of the committee’s Democrats in voting yes.

Ms. Lynch has so far generated little animosity from Republican senators, even those who ended up voting against her. Many praised her work as a prosecutor and some said they were glad that Attorney General Eric Holder , a frequent target of GOP criticism, would be replaced. Mr. Holder is staying on the job until Ms. Lynch is confirmed.

But during Ms. Lynch’s confirmation hearing late last month, she drew criticism from most of the committee Republicans for saying she agreed with a Justice Department memo that said Mr. Obama’s plan to grant a reprieve to millions of undocumented immigrants was legal. Nor did Ms. Lynch forcefully disavow any of Mr. Holder’s policies—though she did repeatedly say she would be independent from the president. And she promised to try to improve the relationship between the Justice Department and Congress.

Democrats are on those committees now because when Democrats are in control there are Republicans on the committees. The chairman of the committee is from the majority party whichever that is.

Look at her record, her open statements, and her written word.

“By their deeds shall ye know them...”

She’s nothing less than Holder In Pumps.

They like minority status. That way they don;t have to take responsibility for anything. Primary the t*r*a*i*t*o*r*s and cut them off at the knees!

An article V convention of the states to propose an amendment that allows state voters to recall their representatives at both State and Federal levels. In NJ, this was written into the State constitution and an effort to recall Menendez was thwarted because he is a “Federal Official”

This really needs to change!Of course, if we repeal the 17th amendment and restore election of US Senators by state legislatures as our founders intended, traitors like Flake, Hatch and Graham would be long gone.

Time will tell. First comes the full Senate vote, first time with a Republican Senate majority,

As BSR mentioned up-thread, when you factor in McCain, Collins, Graham, Hatch and Flake, there IS no Republican majority.

To say nothing of McConnell and his weasel-moves.

The 2014 selection cycle was a bait-and-switch that went national.

It would still be tough to adopt an amendment by Article Five convention. 38 states are needed for ratification and the Republicans currently control 30 state legislatures. The Democrats control 11 and nine are split between the two parties.

damn, I just used the same analogy a few minutes ago on another topic here on FR.

That’s the best way to truthfully explain what’s going on in Congress for years.

Anyone watching really closely knows that the Senate has been about bait and switch since long before 2014.

One of my pet peeves is that since 2009 the Senate has confirmed 307 Obama nominated federal judges. 109 of them were confirmed unanimously on roll call votes and another 38 were confirmed by unanimous consent. Plus 60 Obama federal judges were confirmed on voice votes, without any Senator having to go on the record.

That’s 197 or 64% of Obama nominated federal judges who were confirmed without a single Republican Senator on the record in opposition.
Obama has had six nominees fail to win Senate approval but in five of those six instances Obama withdrew the nomination, nominated someone else and the replacement was confirmed.

A mental Flake, a Graham Cracker, and a Booby Hatch. That is the face of the GOP today. No wonder the Dems are laffing their asses off.

Where is our George Patton, Curtis Lemay, Ronald Reagan?

Agreed, there would be difficulties but we’re talking 30 likelies and 9+ possibles, depending on the proposals. On the issue of the 17th Amendment, the lure of reclaiming state power that was given away in 1917(?)might prove stronger than political partisanship and there would probably be other proposals with a similar lure. Given what we have now, which is zip, it certainly seems well worth going ahead. Besides we may strengthen our positions in some states and pick up some additional states in the next few years. We really can’t afford pessimism at this stage of the purposeful destruction of our Republic.
