Always wondered why Norway bucked the trend and went with NATO.

Sweden and Finland always seemed perfectly fine with neutrality.

Putin’s wars and obvious intentions, are leading Sweden and Finland to consider joining NATO.

Sweden and Finland weren’t occupied during the war.

“Always wondered why Norway bucked the trend and went with NATO.”

“Sweden and Finland always seemed perfectly fine with neutrality.”

Norway has abandoned neutrality as a defensive measure given their own disastrous experience and that of the other European nations in WWII. I know an elderly couple who despise the Germans to this day, after her elderly grandparents were dragged out of their log house in Norway during WWII by German soldiers and murdered them in the snow. They also strongly disliked the Swedes for allowing the German soldiers to transit through Sweden to get to Norway. Many Norwegians today would rather die fighting than tolerate another hostile occupation by German or Russian invaders.

Some of the Swedes also aren’t happy with the way in which their government was backed into a corner and coerced into allowing the German forces to use Swedish territory for the German war on Norway. As strongly as the Swedes believe in maintaining their neutrality, they are being very sorely tempted into abandoning their traditional neutrality in the face of this mounting threat of aggression from Putin’s Russia.
