Cops should take a deep breath and close their eyes when dealing with angry people, according to the NYPDs new retraining program.
The potentially dangerous advice is part of a $35 million smart policing primer by Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton that most of the cops who have gone through it say is completely useless.
One cop who sat through two full-day programs called them not realistic and pretty silly.
At one point during the lectures, the cop said, those in attendance were given breathing exercises to learn how to calm down even when facing someone who could pose a threat to their safety.
They said if you find yourself in a situation thats getting heated, take a step back, close your eyes and take a deep breath, he said.
Thats pretty funny that I would close my eyes in a tense situation.
Another cop called the lectures smoke and mirrors to appease the public.

$35 million dollar pansy training full load of PC.
And it ONLY cost $35 Million!!
That’s some goooOOOOOOood governmenting!
That little thug in Ferguson would be alive today.
Yep, Wilson would be dead and the thug would be alive if this garbage advice had been followed. Elite liberal silliness right up there with 'jobs programs and midnight basketball' for ISIS...
That logic dictates that Dinkins would have gotten a second term or more, especially after being just another in a long line of liberal NYC mayors that destroyed the city’s economy and societal structure.
“As long as just one career criminal is saved....”
Here’s the progressive logic:
If Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson had followed this advice while Michael Brown was attempting to take his gun, he would be dead today and Brown would be alive trying to plea bargain a first degree murder charge to involuntary manslaughter. In a couple of years Brown would be out of jail in a federal program to help him start his life anew. Wilson’s death would have created a new job opening in the community. There would have been no riots and all of the businesses burned to the ground would be open and feeding economic prosperity in the community. What’s not to like?
That may be deblazio's endgame.
BRATTON'S STILL PROSTRATE---ALL PUCKERED-UP---WILL DO ANYTHING TO SAVE DEBLASIO FROM HIMSELF--one goofball NYPD hire suggested arming cops with breath mints and spraying protesters with baby oil. Michael Julian was appointed Commissioner Bratton's deputy commissioner of training last November....and he still has a job.
SO HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TAXPAYERS TO BUY BRATTON'S LOYALTY? Show me the money, Commissioner.
<><> $35 Million for retraining cops; only the beginning of the tax dollar tsunami;
<><> Blabbio recently announced he "showed his support" for cops by "giving Bratton" $132 million tax dollars;
<><> the city's procurement bulletin notes that Bratton's close pal is getting a cushy (open-ended?), no-bid deal from the NYPD to fulfill Bratton and Mayor de Blasios mandate to fix community policing in the wake of Eric Garner.
NY POST REPORT EXCERPT---The NYPD is poised to issue a no-bid contract to Commissioner Bratton's pal.......the deal with "Strategic Policy Partnerships" is to fulfill Bratton and de Blasios mandate to fix community policing in the wake of the Eric Garner case.
The contract subsidizes training for high-ranking police officers to mend community relations and enhances cadet training.... according to City Record, the official publication for NYC procurements.
The firm is headed by Bratton friend, Robert Wasserman, onetime partner in "The Bratton Group"--a L/E consulting firm Bratton ran before taking NYPDs top job last January....the two pals raked in more than $53,000 on a contract with the Baltimore Police Dept in 2013.....and as L/E consultants in Oakland, Calif, where Bratton earned $125,000.
Wasserman founded Strategic Policy Partnerships in Feb 2012. He served as a consultant (a) during Bratton's tenure as LA's police chief 2002-2009, and, (b) when Bratton was NYPD commissioner in 1994 (under Giuliani).
Wasserman's more recent contract entitled, "the transition of the Bratton administration in 2014 was funded by the n/p "Police Foundation..."
But the new no-bid deal will be financed by taxpayers.....tax dollars will be flowing like Proressive BS.
===============================================
That whining sound you hear is Bratton saying: "What's my cut?"
That’s the idea. Remember who/what Warren Wilhelm, aka Bill de Blasio, is.
If cops close their eyes during a tense situation, they might wind up closing their eyes for good.
A crazy “retraining” program.
That’s what happens when progressives choose the training.
They’re the kind of people who would institute pink fatigues for the military because their research (which cost $20 million) says it will “calm the enemy” and make war less icky.
No, not logic. Just my opinion.
What % of the vote do you think he would get were an election held tomorrow?
And Brown would be free to vote for his favorite DemocRat.
Are they going to be given a department-issued supply of tin cans for self-defense, as has been proposed in schools?

I guess De Blah Blah doesn't know cops need to have their eyes wide open to evaluate a situation, and what threats may or may not be present.
So, if I’m a criminal being checked out by a lone police officer, all I have to do is wait for the eye-closing, punch his lights out and run away? < /sarc >
Sounds like they need some peril-sensitive sunglasses.
Never, ever close your eyes when confronted by an angry person.
Will they be getting equipped with light sabers too after learning to use ‘the force’?
Couldn’t say. Then again, something really bad would have to happen to even trigger such an election.
I’m not saying there could be an election.
This is just my way of saying that more than a simple majority of NY voters are satisfied enough with this communist that they would vote for him again.
IOW, they’re idiots.
