This man is not a “moderate”: Why Jeb Bush is more conservative than you think
Salon ^ | Feb. 23, 2015 | Elias Isquith

According to the dominant media narrative, Jeb Bush runs to the center. But history tells a different story

Election Day 2016 is just a bit less than two years away, so you’ve got more than enough time
to prepare. But if you’re not numb to it already, get used to this phrase, because you’re going to
hear it constantly in the weeks and months to come:

“Jeb Bush, the moderate former governor of Florida…”

In terms of convenient but factually dubious crutches that will be leaned on constantly by the
horse-race media, the “Bush-the-moderate” narrative is poised to blow its competition out of the
water. Its lesser cousin, “Bush-the-genius,” won’t even come close.

The problem with seeing Jeb Bush this way is rather simple: Unless “moderate” simply means
“to the left of Ted Cruz” — which, to be fair, it very well might! — it is a terrible descriptor
for Bush’s record. Indeed, when University of Northern Florida professor Matthew Corrigan needed
a name for his new book on Bush, he went withh “Conservative Hurricane: How Jeb Bush Remade
Florida.” He did so with good reason, as his review of Bush’s track record demonstrates — on
education and affirmative action, on taxes and reproductive rights — he did so with good reason.

Recently, Salon spoke with Corrigan over the phone about his book. Our conversation touches not only
on Bush’s policy record, but also his governing style, his personality type, his vision of the role
of government and how he’d likely act if he became the United States’ 45th president.

Common core is pure socialism and it’s Jeb’s dream come true.

Bush had to stop discriminating based on race per court rulings which outlawed “affirmative action” aka, systematic preferences based on skin color.

Naturally the leftist sap peddlers would push Bush as conservative. To them he might be, but not to thinking people. Jeb is a bona fide member of the Republican left, an open borders, Common Core, Clinton loving, Obamacare illegal loving dumbass.

Sounds like satire to me.

I would label him a liberal - Common Cause, killing of Terri Schiavo, adoration of illegal aliens, preference of Mexico over the U.S. etc. As a minor point, I cannot imagine his shopaholic wife as the First Lady.

Actually, the editor at Salon has a firm grasp of the differences between a conservative and a republican. Which means that this garbage was allowed to be published on purpose. Many here on this thread have already identified this as propoganda.

Exactly, these evil people know what they are doing. As soon as they can convince enough people to make Bush3 the nominee, they'll turn 180 degrees. They'll try to drive a wedge in the Republican party, trying to turn off conservatives and keeping them home on election day saying Bush3 is not conservative enough. Our enemedia is doing the work of the devil through deception. I just hope Americans have had enough of the enemedia's BS.

According to the current Bush: Those who enter the U.S. without authorization do so because they lack other means to provide for their families, and that their doing so is “not a felony” but “an act of love. It’s an act of commitment to your family.” Bush is not a conservative, he’s a big government liberal.

I will not vote for a big government liberal (Democrat or Republican) who supports Amnesty, Obamacare, restrictions on our God-given right to keep and bear arms, or any of the other forms of FedGov mission creep we are seeing with the latest generation of liberals.

not a stirring speech-giver like President Obama

The libs really believe this propaganda talking point. They pass it around as if it is an actual description of reality.

Unless “moderate” simply means “to the left of Ted Cruz”

Well, I guess Jeb may very well be to the right of his father or brother. But, unless "conservative" simply means "being the most conservative of the Bush family" he would not meet the definition for most true conservatives. Jeb is still a big government Republican. Just because he has the (R) behind his name does not make him conservative.

Personally, barring any unforeseen circumstances, I am voting for Ted Cruz in 2016. It does not matter whether he is on the ballot. If he is, I will be happy knowing that the Republican establishment has been beaten back by the grassroots conservatives. If he is not, he will be my write-in vote. I am done voting for the lesser of the evils. I have not voted "for" a presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan. Since then it has been a vote against the other guy. It hasn't been working. It is time to vote "for" a candidate again.

Interesting that the writer of this piece (like all liberals) consider Jeb’s handling of the Schiavo case as an example of “conservative over-reach”.

I can’t remember him doing anything whatsoever to prevent the Schiavo murder, but to the libs, he came very close to saving her life (which they hate him for).

Do you see evidence for that? I haven't followed him closely but I just assume all Bush's are pretty much the same neutral, featureless, worthless RINO inside.

No hard evidence of him being more conservative than his father or brother. Although, he did use his veto pen fairly aggressively at first causing even (R) state legislators to howl because they had thought that it was time for their pork projects to be given a share with a fellow (R) governor. My point was that even if he is to the right for a Bush, he is no conservative. He is still a big government Rockefeller Republican.

Actually, Jeb did a lot. He repeatedly asked OTHERS to save Terri’s life.

When they refused, and the time came for HIM to stop the murder, he hid under his desk.

Jeb Bush murdered Terri Schiavo.

Well and truly stated. Left out is why he was in favor of executing Terri. he is a Bush. The Bush family is of the globalist oligarchy. Reducing the world’s population and specifically the dangerous US population is part of the oligarchs’ agenda. Bottom line: Jeb supports euthanizing the useless eaters. Is that a conservative position ... under the most modern Neocon definitions, yes it is.
