Gun ownership is what a free people do. When the government takes away your firearms, you become their slave in chains. I would never expect the Euro-peons to understand that.
Right, which is why Europe has seen dictators come and go. An unarmed citizenry is easy to conquer and subdue.
Strict gun control in England, and the rest of Europe has existed since the invention of the gun and of matchlocks and other very primitive arms.
Ownership was limited to the right people just as in “may issue” jurisdictions. That included the wealthy, who could afford them, the ruling class up to and including the royalty, and their arm of enforcement, the military.
Common citizens were generally forbidden gun ownership out of fear of civil unrest or even rebellion.
The Second Amendment was added because many of the colonies would not sign off on the Constitution without it and the rest of the Bill of Rights, which is missing in gun ban countries.
The founders had the fear of an ever encroaching government oppressive to the very citizens who created it.
Thankfully, the founders had excellent foresight.
“Euro-peons” LOL Very good!
Europeans have had thousands of years of serfdom to various elites and would not know how to act in a truly FREE society.
It has been said you could pick out an American tourist in the old EUROPE because they walked UPRIGHT with ASSURANCE and not bent over with their head down.
That concept goes back a long way.
Under Shariah law, only Muslims could own weapons. Dhimmi were to be protected by Muslims but could not own swords, spears and other weapons.
It was another way to keep them subservient, at the mercy of would-be criminals and reliant on the expensive intervention of armed Muslims to protect them.
