Thanks for sharing. Forrest Gump was a masterpiece.
The story of a pure-hearted simpleton caught up in current events, who, aware of his own intellectual deficiencies, consoles himself repeatedly throughout the movie with the words, “stupid is as stupid does...” and judged by those criteria proves to be the smartest character in the entire story:
He is the only character who “does” all that is right and good. He saves his platoon, he protects the weak from bullies, he loves people for themselves, unconditionally, as they are, he is not a racist, he is humble. He is everything a good person might strives to be. He is so good he is nearly angelic, which explains why leftists hate the movie.
The great irony and tragedy for his love interest, Jenny, is that she destroys her life in a quest for meaning and happiness, both things which Forrest has in abundance, and which he only ever wants to share with her, his Jenny. The most poignant moment in the film is when she lays dying, and he recounts the various beautiful places he has seen and experienced, things which she never got to see because she never managed to “do” the right things..
Anyway, the story is a masterpiece. I highly recommend it as one of the best movies ever.
Very nice synopsis! Thank-you.
Good Golly! What did Sally Field have to do to get him into the ARMY?!?!?
