More than 4,700 square miles of ice formed over the Great Lakes in just one night on Tuesday.
The Arctic blast that swept the Midwest and Northeast saw a near-record amount of Lake Ontario was iced over, with just 20 per cent of open water left.
Overall 82 percent of the five water bodies sealed up.
Temperatures are expected to drop again on Thursday night, leading forecasters to predict that figure to climb significantly by Friday morning.

It is the only one. It is good because of the people in it, not fatso Moore.
Have you ever wondered how you can only go north or south on a highway from Detroit to Port Huron that's only labeled East or West?
Maybe it would be fun to walk across while wearing a sign that says something like "Global Warming Great Lakes Hike."
But, but - it’s the warming that causes the cooling.
Good thing I didn’t drop out of college like that ignoramus Walker, or I would never understand these things...
Never noticed. I haven’t been to Detroit in over a decade but from Lansing I would take I96 to get there. I go to Port Huron still (my home town) but from here I ride I69 which I believe is marked east west between Lansing and port Huron but north south between Lansing and Indiana
Might as well join in since I can’t get it out of my head now
Your welcome!
It has been in my head since I replied to Alberta Child’s post last night at 10pm.
Ditto!
According to the NWS, the -10F @ their office in Paducah, KY, on 2/19/15, clobbered their old record for the date. I’m not sure if the records in that area go back to 1936, though.

Here in Central Fla. temp. got down in to the thirties.
We had to chop up the piano for firewood - but we only got two chords.

My favorite Cold weather joke.
An elderly woman lived on a small farm in Canada, just yards away from the North Dakota border. Their land had been the subject of a minor dispute between the United States and Canada for years. The widowed woman lived on the farm with her son and three grandchildren.
One day, her son came into her room holding a letter. “I just got some news, Mom,” he said. “The government has come to an agreement with the people in North Dakota. They’ve decided that our land is really part of the United States. We have the right to approve or disapprove of the agreement. What do you think?”
“What do I think?” his mother said. “Sign it! Call them right now and tell them we accept! I don’t think I can stand another Canadian winter!”
“No. Hillary was... :^)”
I’ll bet she left a ring around the lake : )
I have not had the college experience yet I believe I have fully grasped the concept, it is as follows; All things undesirable to the mind of a typical liberal democrat are the direct result of global warming caused by the actions of evil “CLIMATE CHANGE DENIERS”. I have never met an actual climate change denier but they must exist, surely no typical liberal democrat would ever blame something on a nonexistent creature. Would they?
I’ll bet studies will show she affected all those lakes.
One big toe was all it took.
: )
Thanks cripplecreek, for both.
