VLADIMIR PUTINS latest victory in Ukraine is turning into a rout. Having already induced Western leaders to endorse a peace plan that virtually guarantees continued Russian control over parts of two provinces, the Russian ruler ordered a large Ukrainian force holding Debaltseve, a key crossroads in the region, to surrender. His forces, including regular Russian army troops, then assaulted the city in brazen violation of a cease-fire. On Wednesday morning, Ukrainian forces withdrew from Debaltseve under fire, suffering a devastating defeat that will further destabilize the shaky Kiev government of Petro Poroshenko. Mr. Putin was so pleased that he indulged in some taunting of the Ukrainians. Of course, its always bad to lose, he said at a news conference Tuesday. Its always a hardship when you lose to yesterdays miners or yesterdays tractor drivers. That was another lie, of course the forces who seized Debaltseve were not former Ukrainian workers but Russian regulars; one Western reporter encountered soldiers who had been dispatched from Siberia. What about Western leaders, who just last week solemnly declared they would hold Russia accountable if the new deal were violated? All agreed there had been, as German Chancellor Angela Merkels spokesman put it, a massive violation of the cease-fire agreement. But there was little visible movement toward imposing meaningful consequences. Instead, officials in Brussels echoed a White House statement that said the costs to Russia will rise if it continues to violate the agreement. That suggested only that additional aggression by Mr. Putin would get a response, maybe.

Poor Ukraine.
The Baltics and Poland must be shaking in their boots.
There is no one to check the psychopathic Pooty Poot.
Well, looks like this one is about done.
Treaties are like pie crusts, meant to be broken Vladimir Lenin
Putin sees the joke in Obama is worst than he thought.
The only question is who will rule Europe first ISIS or Putin
Europe should fund a mission for la Légion étrangère to kick the Russians back out.
You have a great point. I think Putin is betting Europe will align with him rather than ISIS.
Logistically and strategically is there a good reason why Russia would want to take back the Ukraine ?
Could they get troops and supplies through the Caucasus mountain range in Georgia to the Middle East without going through Turkey ?
The joke is on Europe:
From Alexander Litvinenko, FSB defector who was poisoned with Polonium 210 awhile back in London. His poisoner is still at large. The Russians refuse to extradite the only suspect. He talks about international terrorism, including the claim that Al-Qaeda’s number 2 (now number 1, with Osama’s death) is an agent of the FSB:
A. Litvinenko: The bloodiest terrorists in the world were or are agents of the KGB-FSB. These are well-known, like Carlos Ilyich Ramiros, nicknamed “the Jackal,” the late Yassir Arafat, Saddam Hussein, Adjalan (he is condemned in Turkey), Wadi Haddad, the head of the service of external operations of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Hauyi, the head of the communist party of Lebanon, Mr. Papaionnu from the Cyprus, Sean Garland from Ireland and many others. All of them were trained by the KGB, received money from there, weapons and explosives, counterfeit documents and a communication equipment for carrying out of acts of terrorism worldwide.
FAKT: Some may object that each of the listed figures, and the forces supporting them, were engaged in solving their own political problems.
A. Litvinenko: Certainly, all these figures and movements operated under their own slogans; however, none of them especially hid their “intimate” ... relationship with the Kremlin and Lubyanka. There is a simple question: whether the Russian special services would train and finance people and groups that were not supervised by Lubyanka and did not serve the interests of the Kremlin? You understand perfectly, they would not. Each act of terrorism made by these people was carried out as an assignment and under the rigid control of the KGB of the USSR. And [the terrorism] ... is not casual after the disintegration of the USSR and [reform of the KGB]....
FAKT: Every terrorist you have named is from ‘the old staff’ of the KGB. Could you name someone from recent history?
A. Litvinenko: Certainly, here it is. The number two person in the terrorist organization al Qaeda, who they are crediting with the series of explosions in London, Ayman al-Zawahiri, is an old agent of the FSB. Being sentenced to death in Egypt for terrorism and hunted by Interpol, Ayman al-Zawahiri, in 1998, was in the territory of Dagestan, where for half a year he received special training at one of the educational bases of the FSB. After this training he was transferred to Afghanistan, where he had never been before and where, following the recommendation of his Lubyanka chiefs, he at once ... penetrated the milieu of bin Laden and soon became his assistant in al Qaeda.
FAKT: Could you hint at least, where this data comes from?
A. Litvinenko: I can. During my service in one of the most secret departments of the FSB, top officials from the UFSB of Dagestan, who had directly worked with Ayman al-Zawahiri ... were called to Moscow and received high posts.”

From Lt. Gen. Ion Mihai Pacepa, highest ranking defector to ever come over to the west. Says much the same, linking Russia with Islamic terrorism. Click link to know more:

From KGB defector Anatoliy Golitsyn and an anecdote from General Alexander Sakharovsky, discussing Russian plans to use terrorism as a new weapon against the West.

Finally, modern use of terrorism in Russia against Russian citizens. The apartment bombings used to justify invasion of Chechnya (the reason why state run Russian media pushes 9/11 truther conspiracies is clear: it’s projection of their own guilt.)

Russia has an interest.
USA does not.
No clue, but that’s a good question.
It is also highly possible that Ukraine is just another test of Western resolve. Russia is hoping to intimidate NATO countries to split with a feckless U.S., looking to a new boss, thus opening the door for the eventual disintegration of the alliance.
The Russkies have already telegraphed they intend to use such “separatist” invasions on NATO countries like the Baltics. Will the Frenchies and Germans be willing to go to nuclear war to defend little Estonia? If the answer is “no,” NATO is gone.
Perhaps that was the whole plan and agenda after all.
Just like the Soviet Union sided with Nazi Germany at the beginning of WWII then Nazi Germany turned on the Soviet Union.... A ploy that worked..
Russkies are to Ukrainians what Orcs are to Elves in the Lord of the Rings movies. Trying to claim that Russia has the right to topple Ukraine because of a long distant relationship-- since destroyed by Russian genocide on Ukraine (7 million Ukrainians starved to death, rivaling the holocaust), is stupidity.
As for "the USA has no interest." Yes, we do have an interest if a large, nuclear armed country with a totalitarian government starts conquering countries.
Russian Occupied Territory (ROT) grows as the world does nothing, its the late 30’s all over again
The ploy will be ? Since the USA won’t defend Europe from Isis Putin will come to defend them ( the pretext will be that Europe give some concessions, i.e. Poland, gas pipeline monopoly, give Russia all they want ) and be their savior, only to find out later Putin will turn on Europe and hold Europe hostage with Nukes.... Capitulation...
A Russia-ISIS Coalition could be in the works
Romulus should be able to annex Vulcan, they are basically the same people after all....
I don’t buy it either
Well, the USA won’t be an option. Obama has already destroyed the USA... WITH HIS MARXISM!!!!
We should just give Austria and the Sudetenland to Hitler — oops, I mean part of Georgia, all of Crimea and eastern Ukraine to Putin.
Who cares that Hitler, I mean Putin has lied over and over. Who cares that he keeps claiming more territory. Give Hit— I mean Putin what he wants became we cannot let this turn into World War 2 — I mean 3.
Russia using Isis as a ploy to cause Europe to run into the arms of Russia....
