I would like to see proof of this. I don’t believe it.
Not saying you are lying, but this stuff gets repeated often and I would like to see evidence it is a prevalent problem.
Kind of like the signs saying 1 out of every so many kids is going hungry in the U.S.A. When I get to the city and I go to many many low income areas and most of the people are fat obese lard asses children included.I went into Wally World the other day and most everyone in that store, employees included was grossly over weight.

The only ones going hungry are those whose mama has figured out how to spend the monthly food stamp money on drugs or booze. Even then they are still getting free breakfast and lunch at school 5 days a week year round.

“Oregon is 2% black, far below average. It has mostly whites with a better than average education. Could the problem be drug abuse? Oregon was at the front of the pot parade.”

Said strong correlation, not perfect one. Several of the top 10 are the same states with highest black populations.

A variable is how the states administer programs. Curious, what makes you think drugs are used more by whites in Oregon, than other states (like Washington, Colorado to name two)?

Highest percentages of blacks clearly explains much of this situation.

Poverty line is a subjective measurement. Our "poor" are the richest in the world- fact.

They certainly have more than I ever had when I was single and working my hiney off. But I prioritized and did without a lot of "stuff". I had what I needed to get by and that was it. And I never applied for gov't. assistance. I just worked a little harder to improve my lot in life.

Way too many nanny-staters nowadays. And they're given no incentive to stop.

>>>Mississippi leads again!<<<

Well, now we know why Good Old Thad went for the Democrat / Black Vote.

That Demographic would fit the bill for the “People who Vote for a living” contingent.

With such a large Population of Takers, how do Republicans get Elected in MS? I know the Rats get a lot of Local Political Positions in MS, but???

Some of my Wife’s Family moved there some years back, but they are clueless when it comes to local Politics.

Surprised that OR is so high in food stamps as liberals there think government spending makes people more prosperous. Prosperous through government programs, it seems. People in OR will never figure out political matters.

Not that many MS whites though still cling to “the democracy”, but they still think Cochran and Barbour are all right.

Well, yeah, if you don’t have to buy FOOD or HOUSING or CELLPHONES, or MEDICAL INSURANCE you’d be prosperous too!....................

So more people are working full time and still not having enough money to eat and sleep inside.

And you can bet they have flat screens, cell phones, and cars.

how do Republicans get Elected in MS?

Mississippi has low population density. Republicans generally are the majority where the population density is 800 people per square mile or less. Mississippi's average is 63 per square mile. Democrats increasingly represent the high density city slickers. Race, sex, age, marital status are mostly coincidental and have surprisingly little to do with voting for more or less government.

Only partly true. Parts of Utah (extreme southwest corner) are warm enough to grow cotton and they do. The locals even call it "Little Dixie."

When I lived in North Dakota (1964-1988 except for a few years off for college and military service), we had a small but dedicated professional needy class in the larger cities (Fargo, Grand Forks, Bismarck).

One charitable organization even bought up a couple of seedy downtown hotels past their prime. The local universities rehabbed the same type of properties for students and ran a shuttle bus. But that's another story.

The needy inhabitants were all people who just couldn't manage money to save their lives. In return for a shared room and three square meals per day, they turned over all of their income (mostly just SSI type income, but some of the residents actually worked at minimum wage or menial type jobs) to the organization and got a small weekly spending allowance which, for most of them, bought just enough booze and smokes to keep them marginally satisfied and do minimum harm. Believe it or not, there were also a few religious types who spent their allowance on tracts and books.

Occasionally, there were some who grew independent enough to check out. But there was always a long waiting list to get in. The charity actually made enough money on the deal that they were able to expand their property holdings to serve more of these type of people. It was a form of voluntary socialism which seemed to work reasonably well. Of course, they didn't let in the criminal, hard core druggie or wino element, so I suppose that had a lot to do with their success.

I believe there was a consortium of churches on the charity board along with a minority of academics and government input. Other than quickly pushing through a rezoning ordinance to convert the hotels to housing, the government provided no other input or funding.

It was a very interesting model which I've often thought would work well on a national scale . . . until I moved out of North Dakota and observed how liberals operate elsewhere. Your typical North Dakota liberal is a soft core Scandinavian type socialist who'd be eaten alive by the typical jack booted totalitarian socialist in ObaMao's America.

I don’t know what they have.
I’d say a car and phone are pretty necessary.

They're actually luxuries. As is cable TV, X-Boxes, trips to the movie theater, eating out, 1000 ct sheets and a million other things the "poor" feel entitled to enjoy.
