Well, somebody has got to be able to buy all the shrimp, lobster and primes cuts of steak which the rest of us can't afford. With my meager $16 in food stamps each month, I can't afford to buy meat. It's just that simple.

I think the big problem with this is that it is never broken down to the county or city level.
Overlay it with a map of voting patterns and you will find some interesting correlations.

Go to any Walmart Super Store the first of the month in New Mexico an the lines stretch to the back of the store with many having two or three baskets full of stuff.

I’ve heard that the Walmart on Coors Bypass is the busiest store in the Western U.S., or at least used to be before they opened the other two nearby (Rio Rancho and Bernalillo).

Why do the red states always end up on lists like this.....Mississippi is a great conservative state but poor as crazy and is on the list of poor schools, foot stamps, free lunches, low per capita income, etc. So strange. You would think after full Republican leadership they would do something about it.

Mississippi could learn some of that. I love the state but it is pretty disastrous in some areas.

Not sure why you posted a photo from a Walmart in Mexico, when you quoted a post talking about New Mexico.

“Of the top ten states, eight are red states. Oregon and New Mexico (which has a Republican Governor and purple legislature) are the outliers. DC isnt a state and shouldnt be counted. We need to be holding our red states to higher standards.”
Not sure if series. Demographics, dude.

Before LePage became Governor, Maine was a well-kept secret amongst the taker crowd. They’d tell one another “you should move here because the cost of living is cheap and public benefits are generous”.

I wonder to what degree the growth of SNAP / food stamps has driven food price inflation by removing price sensitivity for those who would otherwise be most sensitive.
