Friendlies sheltering behind reinforced concrete of 12 inches thickness or 24 inches of damp soil should be mostly unharmed by the radiation released by a 1kt neutron weapon going off at a distance of about a mile.
They’ll have to be evacuated by shielded APC afterwards, though.
Not everyone can be behind 12 inches concrete or 24 inches damp soil, FRiend.
I would say using neutron bombs during a war on your own soil is a last ditch effort to turn the tide. If you considered doing it, you most likely have already lost.
I thought that the radiation ceased after the bomb’s explosion was completed.
1 kt explosive force is about 280 Tim McVeigh bombs, hardly inconsequential, plus the fallout from a low altitude burst from a device loaded with beryllium.
For how long are there aftereffects? I though it was safe immediately after the initial detonation.
