And once again, force is authorized in other situations in some jurisdictions. That's not in dispute. For a SELF-DEFENSE CLAIM, yes, your life must be threatened. Any other legal use of deadly force would not fall under self-defense.

I could also claim I was in fear for my life ergo a self defense claim.

Typing in all caps doesn’t bolster your inaccurate argument at all.

Their definition of self defense does not require a belief that one’s life is being threatened.

You are wrong. In Texas lethal force is legal to protect property after dark - no claim of self defense is necessary.

Now if “baiting” were involved that might change things- but in past cases baiting usually involved enticing a specific person over via phone or other means. Never heard of a case like this in Texas. Would likely depend on the Jury. Still, Bad idea to do what this guy did, regardless of legality.
