Tri Care Pays Physicians and Hospitals less than Medicare.
You are so right. My wife recently needed a MRI for a spinal issue. The local hospital, 3 miles from our home does not accept TRICARE. (Read "Not in the so called Network") We had to drive 85 miles to a facility in another state for an MRI. I am not really complaining as we did get the care the Government promised me and family after 30 years service. I am retired. However, it was a major unnecessary inconvenience to say the least especially one with a major spinal problem driving 170 miles round trip.
and much slower, if you can fathom that...

I’ve had trouble finding docs that take it & I’d say that is a big part of the reason why. When you add the slowness to the low reimbursement rate, who would want to accept it?
My father retired from the Marine Corps when I was five years old. We didn’t have “medical insurance” we went to a military installation, drove to the hospital and were treated, for everything from allergies to cancer, free of charge.
