U.S. Embassy Marines in Yemen handed over their M-9 pistols and M-4 carbines before evacuating the chaotic country with diplomatic personnel, the Pentagon said Wednesday.
The Marines also left behind several vehicles at the airport in the capital city of Sanaa before departing on a civilian flight, said Army Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman.
Warren said the Marines destroyed their machine guns and other crew-served weapons before leaving the Embassy for the airport. He also said that it was unclear who now had custody of the weapons and vehicles that were surrendered.
A Marine spokesman could not immediately say whether the surrender of weapons by Embassy Marines in an evacuation was unprecedented.

We do not actually know the condition of the weapons surrendered.
If crew served weapons were disabled, it does not seem unreasonable to assume that side arms were disabled as well.

Indeed it should have beena simple matter to disable small arms. Plus sugar or water in tha fuel tanks of a vehicles.
It tore me up when I left service a few years ago - I wasn’t sure what I’d do after a lifetime in uniform.

I found that at the site and figured that was what you were talking about. If I had to order my men to turn tail and destroy their weapons I’d never be able to look at myself in the mirror wearing a uniform again. And the bookworm bureaucrat who tells me to give that order would not enjoy the plane ride home. I’d most likely resign my commission then and there. I know I sound dramatic, but we teach our soldiers that your rifle is more than just a rifle. This flys in the face of everything the military stands for. Blowing up a Humvee or a radio is one thing. This is another.
No Marine handed a weapon to a Houthi, or had one taken from him.

One U.S. official said a contingent of around 100 Marines was helping protect the U.S. embassy in Yemen. Another official said a Navy amphibious assault ship, the USS Iwo Jima, was in the Red Sea off Yemen’s coast and would be available to help with the evacuation of embassy staff, if requested by the State Department.

I want to know who gave that order and why. It was a chartered commercial flight. I can understand the destruction of the crew service weapons prior to departure but the M-4s and sidearms make no sense whatsoever.
This could have been a disaster much worse than Benghozi. What idiot his running this program? Damn it congress our Marines lives hang in the ballance, DO SOMETHING.
